Circumstance has given them the opportunity to reunite, but Cloud isn’t sure he can lower the bleak borders around his heart to let her back in.

Cloud and Sephiroth awaken to find themselves taken into custody by the WRO. Reeve, despite scientific evidence provided to him, declares Cloud, Sephiroth, and their child a threat to society. He sentences them to be confined within the basement laboratory of the WRO for fifteen years in order to keep tabs on the “vampire family.” Though slightly degrading, Cloud and Sephiroth’s new life raising their child at the WRO isn’t too bad. Until Reeve puts a new scientist, Dr. Rhames, in charge of studying the Strifes. Rhames is hellbent to get revenge on the immortal beings who killed his family. Research? More like torture. Cloud and Sephiroth decided enough is enough, they want to be free to spread their wings.

Cloud is trying to make his makeshift family with Tifa work, but Denzel has already walked out due to Cloud’s erratic behavior. Cloud can’t seem to get a grip because so many painful memories keep flooding back to him. Until he finally remembers someone he’d blocked from his mind for so many years…Novah. He discovers Novah is still alive after all this time, but looks completely different. Cloud’s fate is altered when Novah bites him, infecting him with “Jenova 2.0.” Cloud discovers himself at the mercy of two seemingly psychotic “vampires,” Novah and Professor Araphael Ota. Novah and Araphael attack all over the western continent to spread the Jenova virus, which either kills its victims or causes them to drink blood to survive. The WRO attempts to fight off the attacks. So Novah and Araphael need someone stronger among their ranks, and they plot to resurrect “Mother’s Favorite,” Sephiroth. Cloud poses that he’s adamantly against that…but a part of him is dying to see Sephiroth again.

Sephiroth and Cloud feel duty bound to rescue him by bringing him to safety at Cloud's mother's house in Nibelheim. They name him...Novah. The rescue of Novah brings Cloud closer to his hero than he'd ever thought possible, the starting point of where their lives would irrevocably intertwine.
