Summary
Jerren still lives with his parents as he tries to figure out his future beyond his boring job at Publix. On his way there to start another work day, however, he walks towards the entrance to Publix until a portal literally opens up beneath his feet. Jerren eventually gets spit out of the portal unharmed. As he steps outside from the building under construction that he somehow ended up inside, he is shocked to see how 1980s the city of Philadelphia has become, with hairstyles and clothes to match the decade. It isn't until he has a testy encounter with Roxy of The Misfits that he realizes he's time traveled back to 1987, and he's not making her feel any better when her plans to upstage a concert by Jem and the Holograms (a name that he recognized from the posters in his Mom's room) to raise awareness for illiteracy are slowly falling apart.
