While Smiley rambled on and on about possible ways to confess (“Set up a picnic, no, make a party, set that on fire…”) Beanpole allowed himself a minute to adore Bug’s (“Who confesses by making a picnic, then a party- wait, what do you mean set it on fire-?”) general adorability.
Smiley and Gent’ bickering about Smiley’s latest Gent-diagnosed bout of pyromania served as the perfect backdrop to Bug in all of his utter glory. Bug’s brown eyes darted from Gent to Smiley, to Smiley to Gent, repetitively, almost like a tic. Bug had a lot of tics. He bit on the inside of his cheek repetitively, until it drew blood, much to the annoyance of his toothbrush. It wasn’t just the tic either, it was the expression of perpetual confusion on his face, that Beanpole was always blessed with. There was also the little birthmark below his eye, or the small smile he gave Beanpole when he made a particularly unsatisfactory joke that even Smiley couldn’t support. Beanpole was… yes, Beanpole was cute.
But they were boys.
