There is a fundamental difference between the consciousness of a person and the body of it. Of what we can observe and only speculate about.
While the body might be flourishing, excelling in many different ways, resting, sleeping, existing,
the mind may not be.
And while that might not seem obvious to anyone viewing it from the outside, the conclusion remains the same:
We are all doomed.
Wait what? I think I skipped a few steps–

Summary
Stanley aka Employee 427 was just a normal office worker who loved buttons and his job. His life was simple and calm. But when he wakes up in the office with no coworkers in sight, of course he has the sense to go and look for them, clueless to what awaits him. As Stanley follows the Narrator's story, he slowly loses his sanity, and tries to find ways to keep the sanity he has left. Hopefully, though, he may find closure.

Ch. 1 Excerpt:
“The Narrator took a deep breath. ‘In the midst of his violent outburst, Stanley failed to realize the poor copy machine he had been beating had developed sentience,’ the Narrator’s voice dipped into a more ominous tone that sent a shiver down Stanley’s spine, ‘and it now wanted nothing more than revenge.’ Stanley huffed, hurriedly stepping away from the machine, unsure what to expect now that the Narrator had broken away from the script entirely. Thick wires snaked out from the copy machine and Stanley nearly tripped over his own two feet on his way to the door, which promptly slammed shut, trapping him in the meeting room.”
