Summary
It has been years since they have had a quest succeed without at least one casualty and they do not have enough campers to make that pattern sustainable but they also don’t have the luxury of taking a step back. Their choices are limited to losing kids one by one or losing everything all at once. So they send child after child to their slaughter and weave shroud after shroud and cry tear after tear and wish for it to finally stop. They should have two more years of this. But they don’t.
Mount St Helens has erupted. Typhon has emerged.
They all know what this means. The world is ending two years too early and they are woefully underprepared for the oncoming war.

Ganon’s burning golden eyes were full of hatred. He was hatred incarnate; a monstrosity in every sense of the word.
And Link would do everything in his power to survive this.
Link raised one delicate hand and the shining symbol of the Triforce appeared. The light around him swelled, growing brighter and brighter.
“Zelda,” Link said, clinging to his memories of the person he loved most. “I’ll be waiting for you.”
Then Ganon crashed down on him; darkness and light mixed together and Link was swept away.

From Annabeth’s mouth that would be one thing. She lives there, likes the aesthetics of the city so long as she doesn’t look down and is willing to stomach the smell if she has to, likes the public transport and hates the winters and summers. It is a place she lives, not really a home. She isn’t so sure what that actually means and that is enough to tell her that she doesn’t have a home like Percy does, that she has never known one. And that is just the thing. New York City is Percy’s home. It is not the apartment he has lived in since he was two-years-old, it is not his bedroom, it is none of the boarding schools he has been ferried between. It is New York, it is Manhattan. Things must be bad if he is begging to get out.
“Okay,” she nods even though he can’t see her, “We’ll get out of New York,”

Summary
As the summer stretches on, Harry feels a change within him. He hadn’t realized how hard he’d clung to his childhood innocence until it was ripped from him too soon. It died in that cemetery along with Cedric Diggory. He feels the gaping wound it left behind. It’s fleshy and tender and aching. Bitterness fills it.
What once was raw and vulnerable crystallizes into something much more solid and resolute. He imagines the weeping flesh around his heart becoming smooth, black marble.
OR
Harry is formally expelled from Hogwarts after the dementor incident at the end of summer. Upon his re-enrollment, he must suffer the sorting hat once more. Everyone he knows thinks it’s a ridiculous formality that will end with him being placed back in Gryffindor. Harry’s not sure he shares their confidence.Something has shifted inside him after the events of the graveyard; or maybe it’s been broken. Either way, he feels changed. This, along with other developments over the summer leave him wondering if he no longer fits into his old house. He’s got bigger things to worry about, though. Besides, what difference does it make, which house he’s in?
As it turns out, it makes all the difference.
