And the embarrassment creeps back in.
“Just - was wondering if you were leaving soon.” Tim clears his throat and it scrapes him up, choking on gravel. “I could use a lift.”
“You don’t have a ride?” Roy asks gently.
Oh, please don’t ask me that question. He did at one point, but he left him in the hallway where the music doesn’t reach, probably waiting for Tim to come back with muttered apologies insincere on his lips - or to slap him in the face, or something. He’s really trying not to do either here.

Dick feels the stirrings of hope in his chest as he finally places the familiarity. Hesitantly, he holds out a hand and slowly says, “Tim…?”
That little face breaks out into a smile, revealing a gap between his front teeth, providing more proof to the insane theory in his head. The child says nothing as they crawl out of the bundle of clothes, and Dick quickly grabs Tim (right?) before he can put his hands on the dirty ground.
“Tim,” he whispers, daring to believe.

"A week of a now wasted experiment," the child grumbles, flipping a small container over in his hand, "father will be most displeased."
"What?" Tim furrows his brow.
"I was studying bee culture," the stranger gives a spectacular sigh.
Tim sputters.
"You threw a bee at him?"
...
He is halfway home, later, when he realizes.
Batman and Robin have been facing off against some sort of meta criminal who can control bees.
The kid who keeps bees in his backpack is Damian Wayne.
Robin.
And he's kind of an asshole.OR
When Damian joins the Wayne family early, there are consequences. While Jason lives, Tim's parents both are murdered overseas and he is left alone - for now.

Summary
Staring with sullen eyes at the boiling kettle, Tim was regretting his night-time activities with how sore his body is and he misses the sweet sound of sleep that he could be getting right now at 2:30am at night. He has just had a long patrol and is trying not to itch as he can feel how gross his wings are.
In the past few hours alone, he has had to scoop as much egg out of his feathers as he could from an angry squad of teens who were pissed he got their dads arrested; he has had to ignore the few globs of paint that spilled in his wing when he caught a wall-painter from falling to her death, but he especially hated when Poison Ivy tried to restrain him with his wings. He’d be surprised if there was a single unruffled feather in his wingspan.
He could probably find the meaning to life somewhere in there, hidden behind a feather that's glowing from some of Gotham Bay’s water that got splashed on him a week ago.
Tim isn’t sure he quite wants to find out why it is glowing.

Another buzz comes in as Jason is double checking the daggers shoved into his boots. And then another. And another. It’s incessant. With a huff, Jason opens the phone back up to idly stroll through the stream of Dick’s inconsistently punctuated texts.

You said you had homework??????
Hello????
Well, he seems a little distressed.
Jason scrolls back up to the top of the chat, ignoring Dick’s incoming messages to take a closer look at the inciting image. It’s blurry and dark. Jason has to hold the phone ridiculously close to his face just to make it out. A green-gloved hand gives a thumbs-up over a piece of wet pavement. Jason squints closer. It’s not just wet. It’s a deep, slick red.
Cool. Whose blood is that? Jason asks. Dick’s response is immediate: NOT HELPING JAY.
