Doctor McCoy sure as hell doesn’t compromise care, confidentiality, or his goddamn conscience for anyone. He has no problem with extracting a mind-controlling slug from Uhura's sinuses, performing a blood transfusion between a human and a sentient puddle, or administering therapy to a crew-wide hallucination of a god.
But catching feelings for Spock?
Now that’s just irresponsible.
And ultimately, it's all Jim’s fault.

He moved with inhuman speed and McCoy was slammed painfully into the bulkhead, arms pinned to his sides, hot breath against his ear. He struggled against the weight pressing in on him, knowing it was useless, a brief rush of panic muddying his thoughts.
“Spock, what the hell?!” His head buzzed as his vision struggled to clear.
“I cannot allow you to put yourself in harm’s way,” came Spock’s breathless reply in his ear, then without warning, a warm mouth enveloped his own and McCoy froze, closing his eyes involuntarily.

Summary

Jim gulped as he stared into Khan’s gaze; eyes ablaze with fury and hatred. The Captain had ruined the madman’s plan, and now here he was defenceless as the augmented human held his own phaser tightly; pointing it squarely at his prey’s chest. Khan could kill him right here and now with one twitch of a finger.

“Once you exit the shuttle you are free to return to your dorms. Those of you who are new, you’ll follow me to registration and physicals,” a vaguely familiar-looking officer says, and Jim’s heart stops in his chest. Surprising, considering it shouldn’t be beating at all.

The Enterprise comes across a mysterious planet with a series of caves that manifest copies of loved ones. These copies are taken from a person’s mind to allow them to confront and heal the turmoil in their heart.
The copies are perfect replicas in every way, including their memories and personalities.
But Jim is shocked when a copy of Spock shows up professing love for him and while he had never considered falling in love with his first officer, this copy allows him to explore the possibility. The real Spock would never have to know.
The copy’s touch is electric and his body is warm and inviting, there’s just one problem, Jim doesn’t realize, it’s not a copy.
