i just figured out how to bookmark external works and THIS. is GOING ON MY LIST. LITERALLY FOREVER. it is THE fic. it got me into fanfiction. it got me into fallout. it is a masterclass in pacing, characterization, setup and payoff, and worldbuilding. a good chunk of it is no longer canon as of fallout 4. I Do Not Care. even if you've read it, you need to read it again.

‘You look older’ was something Viktor didn’t say on account of having manners. He thought it though. Regardless; the sudden age difference between them explained a lot. The realization he came to wasn’t pleasant.
Somehow, this barren wasteland was his future.
