    Summary

Yuna Hollander has spent a lifetime hiding her fear behind competence. From Shane’s childhood to his rise as an NHL star, she has carried anxiety so he wouldn’t have to.
Until one unplanned moment forces her to confront the limits of planning, the weight of anxiety passed down through generations, and the quiet courage it takes to let her son live his own life.

Or: Shane's anxiety came from Yuna. What if Yuna went to the cottage instead of David?

    Bookmarker's Notes

One of the most beautiful Yuna fic, about a mother's love, about anxiety, about what we can control and what we can let go of.

“Who’s got you blushing like that, Shane Hollander?”

Shane’s gaze shoots up and his brain short-circuits, going completely blank with any good answer other than the truth – Ilya Rozanov makes me giggle like a lovesick fool. Shit.

“Uhh, my mom?” Terrible answer. What the fuck, Hollander?

“You’re a terrible liar, my friend,” Rose points out as she smirks and watches him carefully.

OR, Shane comes clean about his relationship with Ilya to Rose Landry.

    Summary

When Roz starts speaking, frantically letting out Russian words from his hospital bed, Troy jumps in fear. “Ty emu uzhe pozvonila? Gde mama?

While Troy might not know Russian, or any other Slavic language that might have offered him some sort of context, he understands the word for mother. His heart clenches in his chest. Calling for your mom, especially when you’re hurt and confused feels instinctive. Troy is pretty sure he’d do the same thing. But the thought of coming out of your dazed state while desperately wanting your mom, and the loss of your mom coming crashing down on you must be a different type of agony.

Roz starts speaking again, Russian coming to him easier than English must. “Mama? Gde moya mama?

    Summary

Yuna could not have predicted she’d be sitting beside Ilya Rozanov in the warm breeze of a July evening, tucked behind the rock wall in Shane’s cottage backyard, grass tickling the backs of their legs. He wasn’t what she had expected. Quieter. Every bit as gorgeous as the TV screens sold him to be, and then some—baked into crooked grins and lopsided curls and sun-kissed skin and tilted accent. Beneath it all, a well. Too much, spilling over. She could see why her son fell so hard.

In other words: Ilya and Yuna have a conversation when the Hollander family meets for dinner the day after Shane comes out.

    Summary

If there’s ever been any doubt in his mind just how much Shane loves this man, it vanishes with the glossy blankness of Ilya’s expression. Blood from a stone indeed.

“My father was very fair,” Ilya says immediately, and it’s got the rigid, almost mechanical emphasis of something practiced a thousand times. “If I was bad, I pay price. No problem.”

“I think maybe we have a different definition of the word fair.”

“Yes,” Ilya admits. “Probably. Shane thinks so.”
