His eyes followed El across the floor- the man seemed to know what he was doing, if their gliding was any indication. She laughed as he spun her, a hand planted safely on her waist, and a sudden thought occurred to Will.
Maybe, if this night went well, he wouldn’t be the only one to gain from it.
After all, no one deserved happiness more than El. She’d endured so much, so much more than anyone he knew, himself included, and if tonight was her ticket out, well then, maybe they could stay just a little longer. "I'm not afraid of death," Mike says immediately, opening his tear-filled eyes. "I mean, I don't want to die," he immediately corrects. "I just don't want to leave you, you know? I'm so afraid of losing you, but the worst thing would be if I left you. Alone."
Will sniffles. He exhales shakily and gently tucks the boy's hair behind his ears.
"I'll always be with you," Will says, pressing a kiss to Mike's wet cheekbone. "And you'll always be with me." He turns Mike's face and kisses his other cheek, and Mike pouts, realizing his kissing direction is about to change. But Will pulls back and looks into his eyes. "We swore, remember?"

Mike returns from a hike with a cursed mark that drives Will crazy with worry, and then reveals the true purpose of the route change.

“Imagine the flames are already there, invisible, curling around your fingertips. Then when you say the incantation, imagine you’re calling on them, focus on them meeting in your palm.”
Will brings both hands up and cups them around Mike’s, his fingers soft where their skin meets. Will's magic is familiar, comforting, a warmth that seeps under his skin, reaching deeper until he feels it in his bones. He suppresses a shiver.
As they camp by the lake, Mike asks Will to teach him some magic.

Summary
Unconsciously, Mike follows the soft scent that’s reaching the edge of his senses, burrowing his nose into Will’s head, right in the middle of his soft bunny ears where the smell was somewhat stronger. The ears twitch slightly in his movements, but he positions himself snugly, letting sleep take over with the film’s sound playing in the background. If the wolf cub’s own ears and tail were quietly twitching and wagging in contentment, no one else needed to know.
In the solace of that basement, the movie ends on the television, and across from it are two boys who are already asleep, in the comfort of each other’s presence, with no care for the rest of the world around them.

Summary
Both of their bodies shake as they catch their breath. Will’s still hard, and his sweat is starting to dry uncomfortably on his skin, but all he can focus on is Mike.
It’s times like these he’s reminded how lucky he is to have Mike in this way. To see this side of him, this side that still feels too new and too intimate and too overwhelming all at once. Sometimes, he thinks he might be bitter. Resentful of his lot in life, being so painfully in love with someone who will so obviously never feel the same way. On his bad days, he even thinks he might resent Mike.
Like this, though, he knows that could never be true. Not really. Sure, it hurts, only ever having Mike halfway, knowing his body but never his soul. Yes, it’s going to kill him when Mike inevitably finds someone new and runs off into the sunset, leaving him in the dust again.
But it’s Mike. He'll take whatever he can get.
When he and Mike end up in bed together after graduation, they fall into something dangerously easy. Or, at least, it would be easy, if it weren’t the most painful thing Will’s ever done.
