    Summary

“I am not going in there defenseless, are you kidding me?” Astrid shot back, feeling exhausted and sore and frustrated that she still couldn’t place why that voice sounded so familiar. “That is the last thing I’m doing.”
“Right, do you have a better idea?” asked the prisoner.
“I’d rather jump overboard and pray.”
A pause. Astrid considered hitting her head against the wall until she knocked herself out.
“Okay, so I’m not saying your plan sucks,” said the prisoner, “but I do have some mild concerns.”

In this timeline, Toothless never made it out of the cove to save Hiccup in the arena, and Stoick took the Nightmare with him instead. With Toothless free, Hiccup went after the raiders alone. He never returned.
Five years later, fishermen report strange ships transporting dragons to unknown locations. Astrid built a life for herself in Berk out of the notes Hiccup left behind, but when Stoick sends her and a team to track down this mysterious trading network, she goes. She promises him she’ll be back.
    That was a mistake.

    Summary

Zuko just wanted to take a breather after a stressful political summit in the Earth Kingdom. Unfortunately, some passerby with good eyesight spotted him entering an apartment through the door as Li and leaving through the window as the Blue Spirit, right before he left for the Fire Nation. The Earth Kingdom puts two and two together and, appropriately, gets four: the Blue Spirit has kidnapped Li, and presumably the other Fire Nation refugees who have been disappearing across Ba Sing Se. They must save Li and bring the Blue Spirit to justice!

Unwilling to reveal himself as either the Blue Spirit, wanted in both the Fire Nation and Earth Kingdom for treason and petty larceny, or Li, who'll draw attention to his uncle's teahouse, Zuko does the next most reasonable thing: he panics.

Meanwhile, Mai, Suki, and Toph are busy investigating who's really at fault for the disappearances of these refugees, King Kuei has realized he can get away with some truly ridiculous antics as king, and the newspapers are getting suspicious of how protective Fire Lord Zuko is of these two random people he apparently picked up in Ba Sing Se. What's up with that, anyway?

    Summary

After a few agonizingly slow seconds of exhausted, confused pondering, Zuko decided there was only one logical conclusion.
“You’re right," he told the assassins, "I’m here to help you kill the Fire Lord.”
    Like a genius.

Caldera City is holding a festival to celebrate finally having enough funds to hold a festival! Although Zuko originally deemed himself too busy to go, Sokka managed to cajol him into attending his own party, in a knock-off Blue Spirit disguise for security purposes. Zuko sneaks back into the palace right in time to catch a group of assassins sneaking out. They failed to find the Fire Lord and assume he's reinforcements.

Zuko needs to find who ordered a strike on him before they do something stupid, like order a second one. Obviously, the most reasonable thing to do is join the assassins and hope they don’t figure out who he actually is. Obviously. There’s literally no other option.

Feat. Zuko's only two coping mechanisms (mortal peril and improv theater), the world's most incompetent hit team, and another knock-off Blue Spirit who's determined to prove this "Li" isn't who he says he is.

    Summary

    “He’s a—he’s a what?” Zuko wasn’t sure he’d heard her properly.

“Our father, Lord and Leader of Agni’s people, has undergone a ritual that turned him into a chicken,” Azula stated again, sounding annoyed she’d had to repeat herself, which Zuko didn’t think was really fair. “To increase his strength.”

    “A chicken.”

“Yes, for strength reasons," Azula said, examining her sharp fingernails. "It’s a form of advanced spiritual meditation.”

    "A chicken."

Deep in the depths of the Fire Nation's palace, Ozai and the Fire Sages (side note: that would be a sick band name) have unearthed a mysterious artifact, which fell from the sky many centuries ago. The accompanying scroll promises to grant those who complete a certain ritual total domination of the natural world. Obviously, Fire Lord Ozai completes the ritual with no hesitation.

Obviously, it swaps him with a chicken.

(The Ozai is a chicken and nothing changes AU, that nobody asked for but everyone deserves)

“All For One,” the first user states, simply. He points at the first line of writing on the board, which helpfully repeats All For One. He then moves his finger to the second line, which reads kill him. “You should kill him.”

That settled, Midoriya wakes up and faceplants into his Mighty Puffs cereal.

    Summary

Zuko is a smart kid. He knows many things, like the first five katas from the advanced set his tutors started him on, and the defeat of the Xachu Island rebellions of 44 AG. He knows that Azula was the one who stomped up all of the garden roses two weeks ago, even though she told their mother it was a servant boy.

He knows that when he notices a faint burn on the inner curve of his wrist and hears the ticking of clock gears when there's no clocks to be found, he should tell exactly nobody.

    Or,
A soulmate timer AU, where soulmates are those whose paths will have great impact on your own, but fate is more easily swayed by choices than it would seem. If both of you make it to a certain point in your lives and your relationship together, the timer goes off, cementing the roles you will have for each other. Until then, anything can happen.

Zuko has five potential soulmates. This changes surprisingly little, in the grand scheme of things.

(Requested by my friend for her birthday, who said, "you know what would be cool? More ATLA family soulmate AUs." And I said "what a great gift idea!" made it into a character study and proceeded to sit on it for two years. Whoops. Happy birthday!)

“Virgil! Virgil c'mon! Cup ramen is better!”
    “No! It tastes like styrofoam!”
    “It’s supposed to!”
Virgil took a sip of his coffee, watching idly as the Duke dodged Prince's fist and fired back a a punch of his own, straight into the Prince's face. The panes of the shop windows rattled. “I hate them,” he mumbled to the cup. “This is the worst morning.”
“You’re supposed to make ramen yourself!” an explosion boomed. “There's more to it than boiled water!”
"They could just. Leave me alone."
    "You are the worst!"

Virgil forces Remus and Roman to get along because a war is bad for business and he’s done giving them first aid in the middle of the night because they keep beating each other up instead of talking. It's really their fault he never realizes the infuriating brothers they're sobbing over are actually each other. He's too tired for this.

    Summary

"I hate this," Kaminari mumbled, scuffing his shoe into the wet grass. "This is the worst. I should be asleep right now."

Midoriya flashed them all a grin that rivaled Uraraka in terms of peppiness. “Aww, come on! Wake up! Let’s show them what we’re made of!”

“What are we made of?” Mina mumbled, glaring at the sun, or lack of one, because Aizawa had dragged them out for a combat exercise at three AM like the unsympathetic sponge he was. She directed the glare to the barrage of explosions Bakugo was throwing at his teammates across the field instead.

“Boyfriend material!” Kaminari hollered, throwing a look at Shinsou to see if he had noticed.

Shinsou was somehow asleep standing up.

In which, essentially, Kaminari Denki is horrible at flirting, Shinsou Hitoshi gets over his people allergy, and Jirou wins a car.

    Or,
The Bakusquad-minus-Bakugo shares exactly three braincells, and Jirou just bet all of them in a deal with Nedzu to win a car shaped like a guitar.
