In nearly every way (except the most notable), the Princess of Hyrule was the Goddess incarnate. For that reason alone, it was a little ingenious for the King to offer up his daughter’s hand to whoever was able to pull the sword.
Link hadn’t meant to pull the sword. He planned to watch as his comrades pulled with all their might, perhaps even tease a few about how it was all for the better that the sword didn’t budge, because surely no Princess could ever love their ugly mugs, and then get into a good old-fashioned wrestling match with their bruised egos after one too many jokes. But it hadn’t mattered what he had in mind; Link’s plans be damned. The Goddess had already plucked him out of obscurity and set him along Her own path.

Genuinely one of the BEST AU/Canon Diversion fics. SO well written with great characterisation, FUN AND ENDEARING KOROKS (whom also get up to mischief with Link,) Link lore! Zelda character building! Urbosa and Zelda’s mum lore! Sheikah Poet lore and an interesting character take on Impa. A little splash of Purah in there, and Rhoam is actually even more awful in this than in the game! 10/10

I never actually finished this? According to the saved epub I was reading this as, I got to chapter 47 (of 50 omg?) and I fully suspect that I didn’t finish because I have this AWFUL habit with physical books that if I am enjoying a story too much and/or it’s getting too heavy for me to continue being in the mood for I just… drop off… 🫠 I do eventually get back to them though, and one day I should get back to this. It’s a fanfic I actually remember and think about somewhat often. I especially remember how much I enjoyed Paya’s characterisation. I also vaguely recall wishing or thinking that Zelda has two hands… polyamory tends to just be the go-to in fanfiction for my indecisive ass apparently. I just need everyone to be happy and content lmao. I will need to come back and read this again some time. The announcement of Echoes of Wisdom just reminds me of how much I love and have wanted more Zelda-centric saving Hyrule stories. Seems like as good as time as any to do a reread you’d think!
