In the beautiful Queendom of Zoodingham, Torse is proud to be Captain of the Royal Knights. He's got an honorable job, stability for himself and his people, the respect of the citizens, and a tantalizing new relationship with a strange man he caught trespassing once or twice.
Life would be perfect if not for that damned Robin Hood, aka the Spirit of Comfrey MacLeod, making his job that much harder by the day.
On top of that, his feelings for his 'casual lover' are growing out of control and he risks complete mortification should Maxwell ever find out how much the brave knight actually likes him.That and the once kind Queen is behaving oddly. Her counsel hellbent on taxing the citizens to poverty and beyond.
Maybe life is far from perfect...

Summary
After the events of Outward Passed Beyond, Torse and Maxwell meet after six months apart. But it's not what either of them were hoping for.
___Torse knows his escapement gives away his delight at seeing Maxwell, but he can’t be bother to care. He’s sure he looks ridiculous, smiling and venting steam, but seeing Maxwell’s face again after months is so relieving.
“Maxwell. You’re here!” Torse says.
“There you are… Welcome back, Torse.” Maxwell says so softly, just for him.
A trickle of blood runs from the corner of his mouth down his scruffy chin.
Torse’s heart trips and clicks against something lodged in his chest.

Chapter two set in the two day down time at the beginning of Mounting Mysteries at Mount Charuk"The night air was a comforting coolness against Torse’s metal body. The stagnant air in Romansu had been stifling, and he’d always felt a bit out of place in the bright sunlight in the sky.
He looked out into the forest and wondered to himself -for an uncountable time- if he’d ever find somewhere in Zood he felt he’d truly belong. Lifting his gaze to the sky, he tries to see Zern, even knowing they’re simply too far away.
He’s pulled back to reality by the soft call of his name, “Torse? Are you alright?”

It's also a queer, slow-burn love story between two men so deeply broken on their own that when they fumble their way across Appalachia they mess stuff up for everyone else too.There's supernatural intrigue, subterfuge, double-lives, secret societies, cryptids, cryptid-hunters and so much toe-curling angst that the rating has to be high.
Settle in for a long time. We're still debating on the tense for writing this sucker.

He has learned this lesson. He has. He can want companionship, and accept allyship. He can want trust, and accept tolerance. He can want solace, and accept shelter.
(He can want worthiness for iron, and accept gold.)
He knows better than to ask for more than he’s offered. He knows how to want so quietly no one else ever hears it. Torse is painfully aware that the transaction ends when the hand retracts.
He tightens one fist around the other, substituting pressure for heat.

It’d been a month or so since…everything happened—and Sonic’s nightmares had shown no sign of granting him mercy. Sometimes he would jerk awake in the middle of the night in a cold sweat, gasping for breath; other times, his eyes would snap open and he would be gripping his blankets with trembling hands, as if his body wanted to reach out and save Shadow.
Today, he woke up feeling completely numb all over, his muzzle drenched from fresh tears. The morning sun was just barely rising over the horizon, streaks of light peeking through the circular window on the ceiling and bathing the floorboards of the attic in warm orange.
How cruel was it that mornings were so beautiful when Shadow couldn’t be here to see it?
OR: Shadow isn’t dead. Sonic just doesn’t realize it until he catches Shadow on the Wachowski’s security camera, sneaking into the house night after night.

Summary
Six months ago Shadow the Hedgehog died. Maddie hadn’t known much about this other hedgehog besides his allegiance to the Robotniks and his assault on Tom, so she was a little hesitant when Sonic insisted on having a symbolic funeral for him. Her son, almost to tears, explained Shadow’s history, his friend Maria, his change of heart, and his eventual sacrifice to save Earth. Maddie realized, much like her own sons, that Shadow was a kid who hurt a lot. But unlike her boys, he had no proper guidance, no place to call home, and no one to love him unconditionally. They held the funeral in their background and Sonic performed the eulogy, even though he only learned about the word ten minutes before. Maddie was proud of her sons’ empathy and maturity—even Knuckles refrained from punching anything unnecessarily.
Five months ago gifts began showing up on their doorstep.
