Four Times Ake and Kelrec Were Trapped Together and One Time They Were Trapped Apart by DoubleStashed
    78380321

Does exactly what it says on the tin. An alternative ending to the first season or some number or season(s) (although it could plausibly be running concurrently with the season through episode 8) with all of the great Star Trek tropes of being trapped somewhere that fits on a single sound-stage.

She nudged his foot again. “You know, in the early days of Starfleet they used to shoot rocks with their phasers to heat them, and use them to stay warm in situations like this.”

“Don't shoot anything.” He opens his eyes to look at her. “And there is no way that can be true. It's ridiculously dangerous.”

The Doctor is into opera. Darem loves calica. And Genesis? Genesis likes professional wrestling.

Many years ago, when she was little and they had been stationed briefly on a little satellite with a fairly small population, she had become friends with a man who worked maintenance and always had time for a bored kid looking for something to do. He had taught her some mechanics and systems work, but the real treasure had been the day he made a reference to his favorite source of entertainment.

The one where Nahla wakes Kelrec up claiming she needs tea to sleep. It’s a little true, and more sweet, as Kelrec accommodates her (the only way out is surrender.)

The story is in Russian, but I found the translation through Google Chrome to be delightfully readable and the story captured a feeling I see in their relationship - it’s sweet and romantic without filing the rough edges off the characters that make them who they are. So no writing sample here

    Summary

He fell, and the galaxy kept turning.

Fifteen years after his fall, Luke Skywalker tends his gardens in a Force-null prison on Myrkr: isolated, monitored, and mostly forgotten by the galaxy he once tried to save.

Then Mara Jade shows up dying from a Vong bioweapon, and suddenly the Republic might have a use for a caged Sith Lord after all.

The question is whether Luke Skywalker can be trusted to save the galaxy – or if letting him out will just give them a different kind of apocalypse.

"When have impossible tasks ever stopped me before?"

Or: I present for your enjoyment: "what if the NR took Dark Empire seriously," combined with "what if the Vong War but you ignore all of the EU after Dark Empire," plus "what if dark-ish! Luke during the NJO." If that sounds fun, you are my people.

    The Rook by vader_incarnate
    73197566

A lovely novel with a "dark-ish" Luke (he's working on it, sort of, okay?) pulled from a prison cell on Myrkr by Mara Jade because things with the Vong have gotten just that bad. All of the best of Ledgends is here, and I ended up binging it in a single evening because it was just that good.

"Luke." Mara's voice cut through. "You're having a breakdown about your niece's alcohol consumption now. That wasn't on the schedule."

"My breakdown schedule is very flexible," Luke said into his hands. Then he looked up at Jaina again. "You're really Han and Leia's kid. I can tell. The attitude is – " He gestured vaguely. " – unmistakable."

"Thank you," Jaina said, because she was choosing to take that as a compliment.

"That wasn't – " Luke stopped. "You know what, sure. Take it as a compliment. You're sixteen and terrifying. Just like your mother."

"And a delinquent," Jaina added helpfully. "Like my father."

"Yes. That too." Luke's smile was tired but real. "This is my life now. Constant heart attacks and terrible decisions."

"Welcome to the family," Jaina said.

There Shall Come Up Briers and Thorns by sentientcitizen
    244842

Per the Author’s summary: In the month of November, the year of our Lord two-thousand-and-one, Methos and Yeshua talk for the first time since Gethsemane. (I read this before the others in the series, and it’s my favorite of the trio; it stands just fine alone.)

It’s late November, the brisk air clouding his breath and leeching the nimbleness from his fingers, when Methos sees Yeshua again.

For one heart-stopping moment he finds himself frozen in the little coffee-shop’s doorway, unable to step forward despite the press of people behind him. The buzz of warning rattles against his skull as he stares at the familiar face, the dark olive-toned skin and broad nose so very different from what the so-called masters had painted. His curly hair, rich brown, has been cropped short, and his full beard is now a neatly trimmed patch on his chin, but it’s the change in his eyes that leaves Methos wondering for the briefest of moments if it really is Yeshua sitting there

Yeshua smiles, and raises his mug in greeting.

Vance's point-of-view as he tries to recruit the Doctor to teach at Starfleet Academy. 100% perfect voice of the Doctor, and an excellent understanding of the sort of chaos that makes Starfleet Starfleet

“Has anybody on the Academy team ever worked with first year Starfleet cadets before?” the Doctor continued, warming to the subject. “Let alone second or third year? They’re not like your nice, disciplined, boring little War College students. Do you have any idea how hard it is to keep them from finding inventive new ways to maim and kill themselves and each other? It’s like they’re born wanting to stick their fingers into the metaphorical plasma conduit of the universe while playing with the on/off switch and wondering aloud ‘what does this do?”

“I once had a host with the finest ass.” She glances mournfully at her own ass— which, in Reno’s opinion, is pretty fucking stellar. “You know how tall people feel the need to smack the top of every doorway they walk through?”

“Shut the hell up, that’s a thing here? Now?”

“Cross-cultural, eternal phenomenon,” Leeza confirms. “Anyway. It’s really funny to watch recently joined Trill who remember being taller in their previous host try and fail to hit the top of doorways. Like, ‘oh darn I forgot I was short now.’”

    Reno cackles.

A Strange Adventure with Mrs. Nakamura the Safety Consultant by shiplizard
    2603727276

Outsider POV on a grown up Chihiro who works as a safety inspector. (Her real job is everything they pay her for and more.)

She had not done anything particularly strange in the five months that he had been assigned to her. She did sometimes come back to walk through a plant at sunset, speaking to no-one, simply peering into the shadows. Haruki had adjusted to this, as he had adjusted to the rest of his new routine. He followed Mrs. Nakamura as she toured power plant after power plant, through echoing hall after echoing hall, lulled by cool, conditioned air and the clip-clip-clip of her sensible flats on tile floors. It was all very normal.

“I will never forgive Sloan, or you,” Julian said mildly, “but any time you want to walk back to paradise, my door is open.”

About the size of a turkey, the velociraptors were basically feathery coyotes with sickle claws. The little buggers were escape artists too, and managed to escape their enclosure at least once every week. Once free they would usually venture into the guest areas and raid the garbage cans, beg tourists for food, and try and lure the pigeons into a false sense of security by fluffing their feathers and pretending to peck at the ground.

The Other Velociraptors on the other hand, were six foot tall, super intelligent, scaly freaks of nature that only existed because the science department was a bunch of nerds. Surprisingly however they were much better behaved than their smaller, more natural counterparts. Too bad the chief of security was an asshole, and their trainer had a habit of getting drunk and teaching them things they really shouldn't know.

The Trouble with Velociraptors by Feneris
    17422232

If Jurassic park were about 10x more like a regular zoo, only the experimental velociraptors were smarter than your average bear… (and Administrator’s POV of the fiasco.)

When Sasha Deling had first started working for Prehistoric Paradise dinosaur theme park, she had thought her job would involve things like escaping velociraptors.

    She was right.

However instead of screaming people running in terror from prehistoric killing machines, there was garbage scattered across the food-court and people complaining to management.

About the size of a turkey, the velociraptors were basically feathery coyotes with sickle claws. And like coyotes, the raptors had adapted very well to human presence. After all, a sickle claw was perfect for disemboweling garbage bags, half-eaten fish sticks didn’t fight back, and tourists would just give your food if you looked at them and made the right noises

Why We Did Nothing by BairnSidhe
    54493018

Another take on Jedi-Mando relations. Mostly told from the (loose) perspective of Corps Specialist Patya Boma, Padawan Obi-Wank Kenobi’s “Interim Mentor” while Master Jinn is out of commission (she’s gonna knight this kid,) Jaster Mereel and various other Jedi and Mandolorian’s. A more serious work than I’ve been reading lately, but excellent world building.

“We have a Mandalorian,” the boy said with the same flat simplicity he used to note the longevity of blaster charge packs. “None of the others are Jedi, so it’s a good fit. The Force provides.”

“My clan will take any of the children we cannot get back to their parents,” Kabii agreed.

“Obi-Wan, I know you didn’t get the full Padawan introduction, but-”

“I know Mandalorians hate Jedi. But Mandalorians like kids,” Obi-Wan said again, less flatly. “Kids they think are people, anyways. I looked it up, after… yeah. Of the places that normal kids can go for help, Mandalore ranks pretty high.”

The Jetii bristled silently, and subtly shifted to put her body between Kabii and her child. The boy didn’t notice, slipping into a small sewer opening too small for an adult with a short command to wait for him.

The screen showed a polar bear and then a grizzly one, and Garak looked alternatively to the screen and the toy a couple of times.

“Are you sure you gave me the right name for the animal, dear?”

“Look, it’s just a toy! Don’t put too much thought to it. It’s brown, it has ears and a muzzle, it’s a bear.”

A solid foray into Quark’s POV as “O'Brien learns more than he ever wanted to know about Cardassian courtship” courtesy of himself and Odo. (The first half is observation, the second schooling O’Brien.)

O’Brien sat heavily, watching Bashir and Garak as they made their way out of the bar. “They don’t usually fight like that,” he mused aloud. He laughed suddenly. “Maybe this means Julian’s finally come to his senses and is going to start leaving him alone.”

Handing O’Brien his usual synthale, Quark shook his head. “Not likely, not with the way they’ve been flirting.” O’Brien choked on his drink.

Post exposure, Julian’s friends turn to Garak to protect him. Garak POV with an excellent voice - you can hear the lilt Andy gave the lines as you read the page. Wishing it had a second chapter.

Garak decides that he will close early. His script is beautiful; he writes out a sign that lists today’s truncated hours and the time he will open tomorrow.

Before he can place it on the door, Lieutenant Dax strides in.

[…] “I guess I don’t need to tell you why I’m here, do I, Mister Garak?”

“I would like to believe it was for a new wrap,” he tells her. “I have some Rinaxian silk that would just suit. The shade is unusual, but it perfectly conjures the Bestri forest on Bajor.”
