“I didn’t know this was your gym, I swear. I was talking to Hen about trying to make new friends outside of the firehouse and she suggested this place - that’s it, I swear!”
Buck chuckled and watched as Eddie’s eyebrows shot up, clearly not expecting that reaction out of the other man.
“Of course it was Hen.”
“Look, I’m sure she didn’t mean anything by it. She probably thought -”
Buck smiled at the other man. “Oh no, she knew exactly what she was doing. She’s been trying to get me to reach out to you for weeks.”

After the fight in the grocery store, Buck decides to give up the lawsuit and move on from the 118. He quits the team and starts teaching classes at a local gym, helping the small business grow into a trendy hotspot - eventually becoming the manager and owner when his boss decides to retire. 4 years later, Eddie joins the gym (recommended to him by Hen) in an attempt to find community outside of the 118 - part of his therapist's mission to push Eddie out his shell. Buck and Eddie reunite for the first time since the grocery store. They get to talking and revelations about feelings happen.

He forgets about it when the doctor lets the rest of the team into the room, but for a few seconds, Buck wonders: if not Maddie, then who?

Eddie rents an AirBnB in El Paso for a while instead of buying a house (because that's crazy, Eddie slow down) and Eddie being gone means Bobby has to fill his spot. This means he has to hear Buck constantly talk about one of the new firefighters at the 118. Subsequently, his entire world turns upside-down. Right-side up?
Excerpt: “We were on our way back from a structural, and Sanchez mentioned their kid. Holy shit, Eds. If I didn’t know Jee… she was just so cute! Little blonde pigtails and everything. She and Jee are about the same age, I think Brynn is a little younger, but I’m thinking of asking Devin if she and Jee could have a playdate. I think I might die of cuteness.”
A kid with cute blonde curls. Buck loves kids.
“That sounds like a good plan. What are your plans for the next 48 off?” Eddie asks, trying to steer away from conversations that make him want to throw his phone.
“I think I’m actually going to take Sanchez up on the offer to join them on a hike. They haven’t been since they got in from Seattle and so I figured I would take them on that trail that we took Chris that one time?"

Eddie loves that Buck does that, even if they’re not together or on the same shift. He still includes him. Especially now, after Bucks been hurt and he’s getting ready to go get his certification again. They’ll be together and Eddie won’t have to worry about missing anything and he’ll get to see his husband's face at work again. He misses both of them turning around when Diaz is called more than he’d like to admit.
But his day moves swiftly, nothing major occurring.
Until they get the siren for a tsunami hitting the pier and Eddie's heart feels like it’s going to come up out of his mouth. Nausea makes it hard to breathe, his vision blurs and he hears Chimney calling his name, but he doesn’t at the same time. It sounds so far away, everything seems so far away.
