Summary
After a hook up gone wrong, Buck ends up with a stalker.
___
It had been a moment of weakness. A foolish mistake. A Buck 1.0 glitch – or maybe some sort of virus that had caused him to suffer from temporary insanity. Buck had acted selfishly and ended up hurting another human being. Again. Kyle wasn’t the one at fault here – it’s Buck. All Buck. He feels guilty, of course he does. Buck never meant to hurt Kyle. It had never been Buck’s intention to hurt anyone, but then again, when had good intentions ever stopped him? And it wasn’t like Buck hadn’t tried to fix it – he had. Now? Now he is trying to ignore it. Eventually Kyle will let it go. Hopefully.

Summary
“Uncle Buck can’t talk, princess. He lost his voice.”
Her eyes widened, and she looked at Buck with seriousness. “Are you like the lil mermaid? Did someone take it?”
Buck looked at Chim for clarification, but was getting none. Instead, Jee took off running to her room and came back after a minute or two, tablet in her hand. She made herself comfortable in Buck’s lap and found the cartoon version of The Little Mermaid.
“I’ll show you.” Her smile was infectious, and Buck willingly and gladly would take this bonding time with his niece.

Summary
“Huh?” Maddie blinks at him, cheeks flushed, stance a little wobbly. It’s rare he sees her properly drunk—but it makes him happy to see her so loose and comfortable. “Evan?”
“Eddie texted asking for a ride.” He narrows his eyes at her. “How much did you guys drink?”
Maddie squints right back. “That’s none of your business.”
“Uh-huh. Can I have my boyfriend back, please?”
“Fine.” She twists around and calls into the house, “Eddie! You-know-who is here!”
When she turns back, Buck gives her a puzzled look. Maddie just shrugs. “I’m not putting another dollar in the B-U-C-K jar. I’ve got two kids.”
Eddie appears under a minute later, weaving through the hallway with a grin that could light up the whole house, the same beaming grin that lights up Buck’s whole life. His hair is a little mussed, his cheeks flushed and ruddy. The second he spots Buck, his megawatt smile somehow gets even brighter.
“Baby,” He says, stumbling the last step it takes to end up by Maddie’s side. Buck catches him by his arm easily.
“Hey, loverboy,” Buck bites his bottom lip, swallowing down a laugh. “C’mon, let’s get you home.”

“What’s– what’s wrong with Eddie?” Buck all but collapses next to Eddie, voice panicked. Blinking down at the floor, Eddie can see Buck’s hands hover in front of him, like he’s scared to touch him.
“I— I don’t know,” Chim stutters, misery plain in his voice. “I think I broke him.”
“What did you say to him?”
“I, uh— may have told him you were grievously injured. But I was just—“
“You what?”
“Listen, it was a tense situation–”
“Jesus, just– go,” Buck says. Pleads, almost. “Go, I’ve– I’ve got this. Please.”
Or: Eddie and Buck stop speaking entirely. Chim intervenes.

Summary
“Double or nothing,” Chimney declared across the fire loft station, eyes narrowed at Buck.
In the middle of the table was a pile of cheesy Dorito chips that they were using instead of money. The game had started halfway through their shift. Whenever they had down time, they had returned to it. The bell had yet to go and they were taking advantage of the spare time.
Buck snorted, shaking his head. “No way. Last time I did that I ended up with millions.”

TK’s expression shifts. He smiles, a little too brightly, and a hint of a blush creeps up his neck. “Sure. I gotta mention, though, I already have a boyfriend and it’s pretty serious, so… but it was really nice meeting you, man.”
Buck, completely oblivious to the subtext, just laughs. “Well, bring him along. I already have a husband and a kid, so it’s pretty serious, too.”

So today, Eddie is angry. It turns white and flaring in the moment that he turns and looks at Tommy, incredulity warring with fury in the hollow of his chest on Buck’s behalf.
“You gave me Ibuprofen?” Buck asks.
His voice is kind of small. Eddie can’t look at him. But that means that he is looking at Tommy when his face turns— senselessly— indignant, his gray eyes flashing in Buck’s direction.alternate scene from "masks", in which eddie works out what buck's boils are really from.

And it was beautiful on the outside too! Buck had planted a few flowers, it was really taking shape.

It was fine.
So fine.
Maybe it was karma for moving to Texas in the first place.

Summary
Buck was curled on the couch, barely conscious, pale and shivering. His lips were cracked, his eyes glassy with fever. A trash bin nearby held evidence of hours of illness—tissues, empty water bottles, a half-eaten piece of toast. The blanket tangled around him was damp with sweat.
Eddie froze.
This wasn’t just the flu. This was abandonment. This was a man who had been left to suffer alone.
“Buck,” he whispered, kneeling beside him. “Jesus…”

The door gives out at the same time Buck’s legs do.

Summary
“Mr. Buckley?” A crisp voice, professional and bright. “This is Sara from Hormel Foods. We’d like to discuss licensing your resealable bacon packaging patent.”
Buck blinked. He was halfway between the sink and the counter, holding an only-mostly-clean dish towel in one hand like a flag of truce. His brain did a little stutter-step, then fell directly through a trapdoor.
“My what?”
“Your patent,” Sara said smoothly, as if this conversation happened every day (maybe it did, in her world). “Approved three weeks ago.”
“Approved,” he repeated, like a child testing a new word. The towel slipped out of his fingers and landed on the floor with a soft thud. “My patent is… approved?”
“Yes,” she said, still crisp. “Mr. Buckley, do you have a few minutes? Our legal team is prepared to make an offer for licensing rights in select categories. We—”

“Okay,” Chim said, voice rough but steady. “That’s it. It’s down. Everyone in one piece?”
“Good here,” Ravi said, brushing dust off his jacket.
“Same,” Harry added.
“Yep,” Eddie said with a short, sarcastic laugh. “And you called me ridiculous for not trusting technology. Guess I was right all along, huh?”
He waited for the usual comeback, the snort, the eye-roll, something from Buck to break the tension.
But all that came back was a wet, choking gurgle.
Snapping his attention to the source, Eddie saw Buck leaning against the wall, hands gripping his throat, blood seeping through his fingers.
Eddie froze.

“What’s wrong?” Eddie’s become far more expressive since he started therapy. Buck normally finds it amusing, but in times like this, it’s just vaguely irritating, listening to him squawk on the couch beside him like some sort of pissed-off goose. “What’s wrong is that you’re reading that - that bullshit.”
