    Across the old factory, where Nightwing plans to ambush a major weapons trade, is a bright new billboard. It must've been put up the night prior, because Dick would've definitely noticed the shining image of Bruce Wayne during his recon. His mother, appearing in an advertisement for Wayne Enterprises' latest makeup brand, wears slightly smudged lipstick and mascara that lines indecent eyes. A light blush paints his face, and highlighter shines atop the highest points of his cheekbones, making him seem as if he were tipsy. Bruce holds up a tube of the lip color used on him, and the company name is written in gold cursive against a pale pink background. It's a good ad, Dick would say, because it's very convincing. (If you buy from us, you'll look just as stunning as our CEO!)

    That doesn't mean he likes it.

    Four times Bruce's pups protected him from unwanted advances, and the one time they didn't need to.

    He played the part rather well. After all, it was better to be the spoilt rich son of an arrogant man, than to be a child with a number etched upon his wrist.

    In the spring of 1985, sleep-deprived and semi-reformed mean girl Stevie Harrington sees Eddie Munson in the cafeteria and thinks, ‘That could work.’

    The rest is, as they say, a coming of age.

    “So? Do you like anyone right now?” Max asks.

    “I don’t, not like that. I don’t exactly have a ton of options right now."

    Stevie has to actively push Eddie out of her mind — a specific image of him from the lakehouse. Sleep rumpled as the afternoon light streamed through the shutters, he kissed her forehead and called her sweetheart. They spent a full night and day at the lake-side cabin of Eddie’s shifty friend. Stevie cooked for them. Eddie played his guitar for her. It was an escape — a castle in the sky.

    Crickets are loud outside the trailer and Eddie doesn’t remember them being as loud as they’re being now. Apart from that, silence is heavy and long. The moment feels important in his shoulders: suddenly, he’s carrying a whole planet on his back but the weight is freeing and constant. It feels a lot like pride and joy. It doesn’t escape him that this comes with consequences and responsibility.

    But that’s it, isn’t it.
