Summary
Friendship comes in all shapes and sizes. And when your own size doesn’t quite fit the standard-issued uniforms, the other misfit in the 7th Division might just become your new BFF.
Tanigaki and Ariko bond over childhood games, a bit of string, and the similarities of Ainu and Matagi cultures. And yes, their shirts are off, because that’s what Noda would have wanted.

Summary
He would poke and grab unprompted, touching his sides and thighs like they belonged to him. Genjirou was often humiliated by it, especially when he would look at him in the eyes, to see them burning with a fervor he had never seen.
It felt strange, uncomfortably familiar and deeply inappropriate, and yet the more he would try to shrink away from his unwanted attention, the more the man seemed motivated to pursue him.
Genjirou didn't know what it was that was making Ogata acting the way he was, but the Matagi himself was starting to feel part of the game: the man’s touch was everywhere over him, the slight pressure of his fingers lingering on his skin and he could still feel it in the heart of the night, when sleep would fail him.
As Tanigaki tries to adjust to his new life in the military, the wildcat is out hunting.

Summary
Fiddling with his purse, Ogata’s gaze was still locked on Tanigaki’s arms. Forearms shouldn’t be the focus of his entire attention - and yet. They looked way too nice, he couldn’t just not look. Big, muscular forearms with big hands doing careful and practised motions. The sound of coins hitting the counter made Ogata snap out of the forearm induced trance; he quickly pressed his hand flat onto the counter to catch them.

Summary
Genjirou was evidently still asleep, how lucky was this man. Ogata nuzzled the space between the shoulder blades, half hoping the sleepiness would rub off on him. His fingertips trailed over his boyfriend’s t-shirt covered stomach and chest. Letting his hand travel over Genjirou’s soft, yet firm body always had a calming effect on him. It simply felt nice, with a hint of familiarity and stability.
Eventually, he noticed how Genjirou was barely covered by their blanket. Softly sighing, he pulled the blanket over his sleeping boyfriend. For somebody who usually holds it against Ogata to hog the blanket, he was never putting on much of a fight and simply let him pull it away.
“-n’t stop,” a sleepy Genjirou mumbled; the sweetest music to Ogata’s ears.

Summary
The irony that the lethal marksman’s final shot had missed its mark – failing to kill – was not lost on Sugimoto. In a different way, Ogata had lost a great deal more than if he’d succeeded in what he set out to accomplish. Now, he was blind and broken seemingly beyond repair, leaving Sugimoto to wonder if Asirpa’s decision to pick him off the tracks hadn’t been the crueler of the two options.

Summary
In the funeral traditions of the Mordvin people, who lived near Yeleninka, it was believed that the soul didn’t go away right after death, but still walked the earth. On the fortieth day, a deputy was chosen for the deceased to speak in their name and answer the questions of the living.
And Vasily had business unfinished.

Summary
Ogata and Tsukishima, from before the war to the train.
-
“Do you still think you deserve to die for what you did?”
That familiar question of Ogata’s put Tsukishima on edge, because of course Tsukishima did. Of course Tsukishima deserved to die. But saying so now meant saying the same of Ogata, and such a suggestion was not Tsukishima’s to make.

Summary
Tsukishima brings Ogata on for a heist. He assures himself that they're both professional enough to put the job first, but when the job falls apart there's nothing left to distract Tsukishima from the failure of their attempts at intimacy.
-
Tsukishima wanted Ogata for that blatant voice in Ogata’s otherwise quiet presence which screamed so painfully that Ogata had never known love and never would, but nothing could ever satiate such a void- and even if such an impossible thing did exist, it would undoubtedly be too fragile to survive in a grasp as ruinous as Tsukishima’s. So instead of giving voice to any of the gnawing desires that would destroy the both of them, Tsukishima said, “You’re worth hurting.”

Summary
Tsukishima captures Ogata to bring back to Lieutenant Tsurumi, but Ogata is not an easy prisoner.
-
It would be easy, to pull the trigger, to be done with the walking ghost that was Ogata. Just the slightest hint of pressure between life and death, an action which Tsukishima had undertaken time and time again. Killing was routine to him, a responsibility as natural as breathing. He did not feel guilt for the lives he’d taken because guilt required a soul. Killing Ogata would be no different.
Tsukishima set the rifle down and watched Ogata sleep.

Summary
There's familiarity in this; Ogata had always used his eyes as Sugimoto had always used his hands; never gentle enough, never honest enough. However, when the soldier turns to face him, as a thousand times before, aching for a touch he knows will not reach his skin, his eyes are met with ones that carry the same gravity behind but that look at him, through him, with a foreign shine.
