    Summary

“Look, Wilbur," Technoblade started. "I don’t know what kind of situation you pulled Tommy out of and, frankly, it’s none of my business. But Tommy seems happy here. Don’t do yourself the disservice of thinking that has nothing to do with you.”

Wilbur didn’t say anything. He and Tommy were alike in that way: Doubt was built into their bones.

“I couldn’t do what you’re doing, Wilbur. Most people probably couldn’t.”

“They could.” Wilbur sounded so certain. “For Tommy, they could.”

    “But have they?”

That question seemed to take Wilbur out at the knees. “They should have,” he said fiercely.

“They should have,” Technoblade agreed. “But a lot of people have let Tommy down.” He squeezed the nape of Wilbur’s neck and the kid leaned into it, his head falling towards Technoblade’s shoulder. “They’ve let you down too.”

    Wilbur was quiet.

“Tommy didn’t deserve it. I think we can both agree on that." Technoblade’s voice was soft above Wilbur’s head. "Can we agree on something else too?”

    Wilbur hummed unsteadily.

    “You didn’t deserve it either.”

Or, Phil and Technoblade get new neighbors. No one's all right, but they're getting there.

“What does it say?” she asks. Techno is the exception in literacy rates. He blinks, letting the quote he’d been studying come into focus.

Even the finest sword plunged into salt water will eventually rust,” Techno says hoarsely.

(or, the Dread Pirate Technoblade kidnaps a kid and then accidentally makes friends. He's not very good at this.)

    Summary

“Empire,” the King’s Advisor repeats. His projected reflection shifts, and Wilbur rolls his eyes. “I stand before you today on the King’s behalf. I am to deliver a message.”

“Tell him to fuckin’ make it himself, then,” someone shouts, and the crowd murmurs. Wilbur hides his smile in the collar of his coat.

“I am to deliver a message,” the Advisor says again, looking down at the tablet in his hands. “’To the people of my land, I ask for your for help. Tomorrow afternoon, the Palace gates will open, and anyone with the capabilities I require for a quest of this magnitude will be invited in. I am calling upon all residents of the Empire, please – ‘“

Wilbur doesn’t even bother to hide his laugh. He shakes his head. I gave up an extra hour of sleep for this? he thinks, shouldering his way back through the crowd. Nobody gives him a second glance; half the people are already leaving. A mix of dejection and annoyance hangs in the air. Fucking tosspot. Piece of shit

“ – citizens are chosen for the quest will be compensated heavily,’” the Advisor reads. Wilbur stops.

“You could do with the money,” Dream had said.

    Chekhov, is all Wilbur thinks.

    Summary

Wilbur is completely done with Phil. The man leaves him when he needs him the most, then shows up with some ancient prophecy like,

“Oh Wilbur. You’re a bad guy but you aren’t really and there’s still good inside you. I’m trapping you in this book until someone has the ability to tame you.”

Pfft. As if he can be tamed.

He honestly feels bad for the poor sap who got picked to be his tamer.

His eyes open to a clearing. A house in front of him and a forest behind.

He’s dealt with the whole chosen one thing. His father thinks he can change fate?

Fate decided to make him the villain. Fate decided he wins.

Now all he has to do is get rid of the supposed chosen one that’s supposed to tame his dark heart.

His eyes glance around. Spinning in a small circle.

    His brows furrow.

Surely they must be right here right?

There’s a gasp from... below him?

His eyes slowly look down, and down, and down.

    It’s a child.

Or, Wilbur is trapped in a book and Tommy frees him.

Or or, Wilbur says, “Ha. No one can tame me.”
And Tommy says, “It’s free brother.”

If any CCs state they are uncomfortable with this kind of fic then I will take it down!

    Summary

Wilbur hums, dazed eyes fluttering close, "The lab... it's spinning."

Fuck, that's not good. Normal, sure, but never good. Tommy rubs a thumb at his eye bags, soothing, gentle, the older leaning into the touch with a soft sigh. There's a shaky breath, a soft, trembling whistling that echoes the first few notes of the Walkürenritt. For not the first time, he thinks of when the apocalypse ends, of a time of peace. An epilogue with soft hands, an ending not with bloodshed. Him and his doctor, his doctor and him. Together, as it was intended.

"Ever think of retirement? Start up apiculture and all that, a tabula rasa." He questions, low and teasing, the wind whistling outside their tent. Somewhere in the distance, a coyote howls, a gunshot rings out, there is silence.

The older stifles a giggle, glove-clad hands grasping onto him tightly, "I'm not that old, you rascal. I think I'd rather kill you in your sleep than retire, bah."
