“Neil knows what I want,” Andrew snaps. This is not Andrew’s fault.
“How do you know?”
Because Neil always knows. He is as fluent in Andrew’s micro-expressions as he is in German and French. He knows which head tilts mean “go on” and which ones mean “shut up.” Without ever asking, he learned what it meant to see Andrew wearing double layers of long sleeves, or taking multiple showers in a day, and learned to hand Andrew the car keys.
That has always been the most terrifying thing about Neil — his patience to wait, watch, listen, learn. The prospect that if Neil were given enough time, there would be no part of Andrew that was just Andrew’s anymore.
“He has to know,” Andrew says.
“Does he?” Renee says. “Have you ever known Neil to assume that he is wanted?”
Five times Neil tells someone that he and Andrew aren’t dating, and one time Andrew uses his words to set the record straight.

The kitchen is quiet, because Aaron has not slept, Neil has just gotten up, and their schedules only line-up in twisted little ways like this. It's nice, Aaron thinks, if only due to the fact they're both too tired to start shit with one another. For the most part.
“Oh,” says Neil, as he leans over to grab the creamer. He pours so much it nearly overflows. Gross. “Cool. I—I thought about that too, ages ago? But, like. I’m in debt to the mafia, and I’m going into Exy professionally so… I don’t have a lot of time to think about it.”
Aaron can only stare at him. “What?”

Andrew mulls this over in his head. He thinks of Neil’s lingering gazes, of the recent reappearance of that warm blush on the tops of his cheeks. It’d make sense that Neil, both rabbit and fox, immense in his attempts to make himself minuscule, would be wary of something so terrifying.

It starts as a bet. A really stupid bet, considering the circumstances. Neil would go to Eden's - the local BDSM club - with Kevin for two months. 'Socialization', Kevin called it. 'Making new friends'. 'Learning to act like a human fucking being for once'. (Kevin says a lot of things, few of them nice. But being right doesn't give him permission to be an asshole.)
But Neil's as stupid as Kevin is tactless, apparently, because he agreed to the bet knowing FULL WELL that he's a kinky fucker who's been not-so-subtly pining for someone to dominate him for years. He's got a drawer full of lingerie and a backpack full of sex toys. A head full of fantasies. A pocket full of condoms. All he needs is someone to play with him - but that's where Andrew comes in.
It feels a lot like torture to Neil, and that's exactly the problem: Neil loves being tortured. Maybe a little too much for his own damn good.
Especially when Andrew's the one doing the torturing.
