Summary
A drunk Eddie accidentally squishes a cockroach in his kitchen and gives it a proper burial in his backyard out of guilt. The universe is moved by this wildly unnecessary act of compassion and blesses (or curses) him with the ability to hear and speak to animals.
Alternatively, Eddie finds out that the firehouse dog trash talks them, the pigeon next door is a flat earther, and that he might be crazy when the ghost of the dead cockroach visits him in a dream to counsel him through his feelings for Buck.

Eddie freezes at the doorway, tray in hand, the voices drifting from inside stopping him cold.
“Oh, your stepdad doesn’t live with you?” Mark asks, gesturing to a framed photo of Buck and Christopher.
There’s a beat of silence—too long, too loaded.Eddie’s heart stutters, thudding hard against his ribs as he waits, breath held. God's really decided to test him today.
Then Christopher answers, casually, like it’s the easiest thing in the world. “No… he lives in L.A.”
or Eddie overhears a conversation between Christopher and his friend, then proceeds to spiral about being in love with Buck while also being insanely jealous of 118's new recruit

Right now, though, Eddie wants to curl into a ball, tuck himself underneath the passenger seat, and decompose right into the Jeep’s recently-refurbished car flooring.
That wouldn’t be fair to Buck, though.
