"A bit of scarlet" is late 19th/early 20th century homosexual slang for sex with a soldier. OBVIOUSLY.

Adrian's big, round eyes grow even rounder. "But you're not a Nazi."

Chris runs a hand down his face. "Yeah man, sure. But in like a… sexy way. And no dice involved." He's already sort of regretting this.
