    Summary

The story you are about to read has been told many times, including by myself. Rewrite of Picking up the Pieces by myself.

The lawsuit is done, Buck is back at work, it'll take time, but everything will return to normal eventually, right? The firehouse crew is hurt, and Buck is struggling. He starts to spiral, going back to his old habits, with no one there to see or catch him. How long can he last on the downward trajectory? Or will someone notice before it's too late?

i.e Buck struggles with his mental health and relationships following a lawsuit against his fire department.

I'm bad at summaries. Just your typical post-lawsuit fic. Updates once a week, either Friday or Saturday.

    Summary

She pressed her palms against her thighs, steadying herself. The bruises were Fury’s reminders. She wasn’t an agent, not really. She wasn’t free, she was an asset, a weapon, and SHIELD’s property. Just a thing, an object, to be used and thrown away when it wasn’t needed.

If she had been good, if she had been perfect, he wouldn’t have needed to remind her. She wouldn’t need to hurt.

    ---

Natasha Romanoff has never known freedom. She has always been somebody else's property: first the Red Room's and now SHIELD's. She was never an agent. She was a weapon. A thing to be owned.

Natasha Romanoff has spent years as SHIELD’s perfect agent, but perfect came at a price. Every choice and every movement was demanded with perfect obedience, and the truth of her life is more terrifying than anyone could imagine.

    Summary

And all of that was why, on their seventeenth day on Mars, Buck had shoved Eddie out of the way during the emergency evacuation, knowing it meant his own death instead of Eddie’s. Buck trusted Eddie to help get everyone else home, and Eddie had someone to go home for. Someone who needed him and loved him. Someone who Buck loved, even without ever meeting. He wasn’t going to let Chris grow up without a father. So in the split second he had to think after seeing the communications dish flying at them through the storm that was chasing them off the planet fourteen days early, he’d pushed Eddie out of the way, hoping like hell it would be enough and knowing he wouldn’t live long enough to find out.

    --

Or, when their mission to Mars goes wrong, Buck gets stranded and the rest of the crew does everything they can to save him. | Fic is complete at ~120k words and posting 2-3x a week as I edit.

    Summary

Running to the frontlines from a childhood he never had. Taking a bat to the wall with his son in the next room. Having an affair with the spitting image of his dead wife.

Eddie knows he’s never been good at grieving, knows he’s never been good at losing what little he allows for himself in the first place. This is why he also knows his coping mechanisms can’t possibly get any worse.

Buck, as he so often does, makes him reevaluate his assumptions.

Evan Buckley dies behind a wall of glass. It’s a shame that when he’s revived not three minutes later, no one is informed.
