This is a story of a very sad Jamie, a very good Roy and a very happy ever after I think.
I am no where near done, but if i didn't start posting I'd lose my nerve.Jamie had a thing. It wasn’t a big thing—at least not most of the time—but it was definitely a thing. Some weeks, sometimes even months, it was barely more than a quiet buzz in the back of his mind. But there were also times when the thing got so big Jamie couldn’t do anything but give in to it.

“What are you doin’ in here, Jay-Jay the Jet Plane?” Ted’s voice was closer now, and his jacket made a weird, plastic sound as he slid down the wall beside him. “Can you tell me what’s going on? How come you’re hidin’ out on the floor like this huh? You know you’re welcome to my chair any time – well, any time I’m not in it, that is.”
Something in Ted’s stupid, caring voice sounded almost fatherly – too fatherly, like maybe his kindness and concern was all a front he was ready to drop at any moment, the way fathers did. Jamie wanted to tell him to shut up, to stop talking, to leave the room before he did anything he would regret. But the world was spinning around him – loud, and cold, and bright, and close – and he wasn’t really sure anymore if it was his coach or his dad on the floor next to him and he didn’t want to risk it.

Jamie doesn’t know why he kept it. He’d always had this thing, with having things in his mouth. He’d chew the corners of blankets or bite his nails, gnaw on pens until ink exploded on his tongue, he’d stick his thumb in his mouth absently when he was falling asleep and wake up with drool on his pillow and a wrinkly fingertip.
Keeley got it for him. Maybe that was why. She’d been taking the piss when she got it, because she knew Jamie’s ears went red every time she brought it up and she was a fucking sadist like that. She wasn’t being mean or nothing, never told Jamie she thought it was gross and that he needed to grow up because what self-respecting twenty-three-year-old still sucked their thumb on the regular, but one day she’d presented him with a little blue boxed wrapped with a shiny blue ribbon with a Cheshire fucking grin.
