Dina was going to be here until the new year. Sarah knew from experience that her mother-in-law could fit a lot of introductions, and blind dates masquerading as friendly dinners, and just plain set-ups into those weeks. The woman was more relentless than a Match.com subscription. But here was an easy way to avoid all of that, and all it would take was one harmless little white lie.
“It’s new and we haven’t really put a label on it yet,” she said. “Just seeing how things go, taking it slow, you know?”
Bucky and Sarah have busy holiday seasons ahead of them: Bucky's reconnecting with his family, and Sarah's former mother-in-law has come to stay for her annual holiday visit. As if that wasn't enough, Sarah and Bucky both have to deal with well-meaning relatives trying to set them up with other people when that's the last thing they want or need. There's a simple solution to that problem though, in the form of one little white lie to get them through the stressful holiday season. They can claim to be dating each other.

With Sam Wilson’s decision to take up the mantle of Captain America comes a host of life changes, including the concession that it’s high time he and Bucky got out of Sarah and his nephews’ hair, and into a place of their own.
The problem is: Being partners is one thing, but being *roommates* is a remarkable challenge for two stubborn souls from different worlds who aren’t anything close to shining examples of good communication skills or healthy cohabitation behaviors.
As tensions grow and their patience and friendship are put to the ultimate test, what Sam and Bucky *don’t* know, is that someone has been tasked to provide discreet household surveillance.
That someone is Alpine.
Once Alpine realizes these two idiots are on the outs, she knows it’s time to take matters into her own paws. It’s going to take a heavy dose of feline hijinks as well as every trick in her arsenal to mend their strained friendship, and get Sam and Bucky back under one roof so she can keep a watchful eye on the both of them.

Summary
Sam didn’t know why he was still apprehensive about Bucky being with Sarah. He'd had months to get used to the idea. Sure, Steve told him Bucky was a player before the war. And yes, Sam also knew some white boys went sniffing around black girls to quench their curiosity or to have a bit of fun. In his heart, Sam had always known that wasn’t what Bucky was up to with Sarah. The man started referring to Sarah as his girlfriend after their second date and he packed up and moved to Delacroix, one week into their long distance relationship. The boys adored him. And no one worked harder than Bucky to right the wrongs of his past.
But Bucky was a soldier. He went from one fight to a next. Sam wondered if he was even capable of sticking around and being a husband and a father for the long haul. What if he couldn’t? Would it break his sister and ruin their friendship?

This felt so wrong to talk about, it wasn’t Sam’s story to tell. It gummed up his brain, just thinking about it sent him in a tailspin. He tried not to.
But there was a hole in Sarah’s floor the size of a metal fist, and a man laid out on her bed, dead to the world. And Sam was tired of carrying so much on his own. So he told her, and she listened unmoving until he got to the end.
