”Shut up you both, I’m thinking.” Cliff interrupted. “It needs to be embarrassing. You were definitely making me do something embarrassing.”
Ilya caught his chest dramatically. “I would never. I’d make you drink more vodka. And buy me some more vodka. All of us. We should drink some more right now, I think.” There was a round of agreement around the table, and Ilya registered someone leaving to order more drinks. He nodded with approval at that.
“I have an idea.” Marlow threw his arm around Ilya's shoulders. “You, my friend, will go to one of Hollander’s games, wearing Hollander’s jersey, and you will cheer for him like the biggest fan that you apparently are.“ Cliff’s smile, Ilya thought, was a little evil.
Drunk Ilya looses a bet, and he's challenged to wear Hollander's jersey to Shane's game.
He's not entirely unhappy with the idea.
Little does he know, it ends up changing the trajectory of their lives.

Summary
A crime, an article, a reckoning.
Shane just stared at the phone, his jaw tightening, but said nothing. Let the hum of conversation wash over him. A sick dip of anxiety into his stomach.
---
Nothing good happened on a Friday.Someone tried to rob Ilya Rozanov’s house. Shane Hollander didn’t know the man in the kitchen, but he knew how to keep moving. How to take a blow.
By the time he hit the ice, the story was already out. Hockey, fear, loyalty, and the things you didn’t say all collided at full speed.
