    “Do you…” she pauses with a cheeky expression on her. “Miss me?”

    “No,” he answers after a brief pause, just to mess with her.

    He sees her eyebrows come down low, an exaggerated downward slope of her lip corners. “Really?”

    “It’s a no,” he says, “to it being a no.”

    “Why do you always have to make things so difficult?”

    Taking a step forward, he leans in close to her. Close enough to place his lips right beside her ear, to whisper.

    “You like difficult,” he pauses, relishing the hitch in her breath and the slight shudder. “Don’t you?”
