Summary
Phantoms were good trackers, Gem knew that, and she closed her eyes as the sound got closer and closer to her closet. As the ghost drew closer, it dawned on Gem that this didn't feel like a hunt. Hunts were distinctive when she paid attention; all of the hair on her arms raised and no matter where she was, she felt as if something was watching her, prickling unease shuddering down her spine. In this closet, she was terrified, but she didn't feel threatened in that usual distinctive way.
Belatedly, she realized that in her kitchen, the ghost hadn't been blinking. She had no idea what that meant.
Regardless of this revelation, when the door of her closet opened, she shrieked.
"Oh, there you are!" the ghost greeted, too cheerful for the howl that Gem let out. "I was wondering where you got off to in such a hurry. You didn't even let me say thanks!"
"Get out of my house, get out of my house, get out of my house!”

“It’s just, this assignment is a short story and it has to be romantic. And, well, I’m kinda stumped…” he trails off lamely, looking away from the other self-consciously.
“Well…” Scar starts, his eyes lighting up with mischief like they do when he gets a Bad Idea(™).
“Scar no. Whatever you’re thinking, I’m sure it's a terrible idea, no.”
“Oh come on! I haven’t even said anything yet! Maybe my idea is so good and it’s gonna inspire you to write! You can’t judge a man before he’s even given you his idea, G, that’s so unfair!” Scar cries in indignation, hands moving around dramatically before he looks at Grian with the biggest pout and puppy dog eyes.
“Fine. What’s your idea then?” Grian sighs, giving up immediately.
“Well!” Scar smirks, drawing the word out, “I was just thinking maybe I could help you with that.” he says, moving his face closer to Grian’s, green eyes wide and staring right into black.

There’s a part of him that recognizes the lingering humor in this situation: the thought that he should kiss Grian, his childhood best friend, for the first time on a stupid twin XL bed. It’s barely wide enough for the both of them—Scar’s feet stick out at odd angles, and Grian’s right elbow hangs precariously off the edge. Still, they fit together like the last two pieces of a puzzle. Still, this feels right.

“NO!” Grian cried, pulling the key out of his car, engine going silent after the series of disconcerting clicks and clunks.
He groaned in despair, resting his head against his hands on the steering wheel.
“...What happened?” Scar asked.
“Battery’s dead. I’ve been ignoring it for so long, I guess I forgot that I needed it replaced,” Grian replied.
“I can’t get home, all the buses have left, Mumbo left, and the storm is too bad for any mechanics to come.” From every angle, he was screwed.
“...Do you want to stay at my apartment?” Scar offered nervously.
Grian’s head snapped towards him, hoping the wave of relief he felt wasn’t too obvious. Or the blush he could feel creeping along his face.
“If you’re sure you don’t mind?”

“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

Scar’s initial expression vanishes instantly, a complex one taking over. It takes him a moment to respond, but his voice is low when he does, “Do it then.”
“W-what?” Grian stammers, caught off guard by his response.
Scar steps closer, “I said do it.”
Or: Scar refuses to stay put so Grian puts him on a leash, turns out that they’re both way more into it then they initially expected.

Scar opens his mouth, sobbing almost hysterically in the low light of the bathroom, and says, “Why won’t you touch me?”
It’s almost unintelligible, like he’s speaking around layers of something soft, something like foam or feathers, but Grian thinks that he would have made it out, even if Scar hadn’t managed to make a single sound.
“What?” He asks, almost unconsciously, the word baffled and confused.
“You won’t- you won’t touch me,” Scar says again, something akin to disgust in his voice. “Am I that repulsive?”

Summary
Scar’s felt off for a few days now, like something clawing at the back of his mind begging for attention. He ignored it thinking it was unimportant because it was subtle at first, just a small itch that he could ignore while going about his daily tasks. Now, after having spent a whole day with Grian planning out builds, the feeling was there full force. He flexed his fingers, opening and closing his fists as he stared at Grian from his perch on top of a hill. Sometimes, the vex in him needed control, to use the magic he possessed, and Grian for some reason is what it wants now.
