"This is an SOS distress call from the mining ship Red Dwarf. The crew are dead, wiped out by a fierce virus. The only survivor is Third Technician Thomas Green, who was in suspended animation during the outbreak. Revived three million years later, Green's only companions are; Minho, a creature evolved from his pet cat, who had been safely sealed in the hold; and Gally Weathers, a hologram of his dead bunkmate.
