Summary
When Rocky wakes up after Adrian, he's relieved they're both alive, but immediately knows that something is off with Grace. He's having trouble breathing, sleeping a lot, and spiking fevers. As much as Grace wants to blame it on lung irritation from the ammonia in Rocky's atmosphere, Rocky knows he's downplaying it, and it's not going to work.
However, before he can actually do anything about it, the ship's power goes out. Taumoeba have gotten into the fuel and eaten all the astrophage, leaving them with no choice but to steal from the beetles.
Which are on the outside of the ship.
Which means two EVAs and a lot of lab work for Grace, all while his condition declines from what's quickly turning into a serious health problem. All Rocky can do is make sure he has what he needs and try to take care of him as best he can from afar, hoping they can get to safety before Grace's health is too fragile to recover.Bookmarked by HelloYellow17

As the shadow approaches, Cloud can only think about Aerith. He tries to move, to pull himself up and forward, to get away, to get back to her. He thinks that maybe he hit his head, because his vision is swimming and his thoughts are pouring out. He can’t save her. He can’t do anything to bring her back. He’s failed her again.
His last thoughts are, “Aerith, I… I failed… Aerith… Aerith… Aer—”
Everything stops.
And then it starts up again, and it starts with Cloud struggling to breathe as something thick and warm envelops him. He’s right back in that Mako tank and he’s drowning he’s drowning he’s drowning—He breaches the surface with a broken gasp, flailing and scrambling to grab hold of something, anything. When he finally does, he manages to pry open his eyes, coughing. He looks around: it’s not Mako he was drowning in. It’s a dark red liquid that clings to his skin like it’s trying to pull him back in. The copper taste in his mouth tells him that it’s blood.
