Summary
What if a temporal hiccup meant Steve Rogers completely botched his trip back in time and landed smack-dab in the middle of the newly formed Thunderbolts? A group of dysfunctional "heroes" with more baggage than a lost-and-found convention.
For John Walker, it's the greatest day of his life. A lifelong fanboy, he's now on a team with his idol, Captain America, and Bucky Barnes, the one guy who’s been giving him the cold shoulder since forever. But John's hero worship is more than Bucky can take. Now Bucky has to deal with the guy he thought abandoned him and a puppy-dog soldier who's showering Steve with the admiration Bucky had been so carefully rejecting. It's a possessive, jealousy-fueled nightmare.
Now, with missions to run and way too many feelings to unpack, the trio finds themselves in the most awkward love triangle in superhero history.
Their solution? To somehow convince a completely oblivious John Walker that two of the world’s most complicated ex-soldiers are clumsily trying to court him. It's all a disaster, but hey, at least they're in it together.

“You look ridiculous,” Ava said, stepping out of the stairwell soundlessly.
John flinched. He’d never get used to Ava’s Ghost thing—appearing without sound, like a blade drawn in reverse.
“Can’t believe you picked the roof for a smoke break,” she smirked. “Cliché much?”
“I don’t smoke.”
“Then it’s worse. Brooding with no props.” She drifted closer, the clink of a bracelet faint against her wrist. “Seriously, Walker. You ever get tired of looking down?”
John shrugged.
“View’s better than in there.” -

Summary
To most people, John probably looks the perfect little soldier, despite some previous, minor hiccups. In reality, he's teetering on the edge of suicide. Not that he'd call it that. He just wants his death to mean something, okay?

Summary
John isn't quite sure of his role in the new and fragile team he's ended up with after getting used to being assigned one all these years as a soldier and a shadow operative.
Everyone else seems to fall into some designation or other—leader, strategist, moral compass, father figure, muscle—all of them pieces falling in a puzzle that John can't seem to fill because the others fit better, and the thought slowly pushes him into a frustrated despair.
John spirals, becoming one with the sofa. He doesn't know that something else is wrong with him. Something darker and more sinister.
--
John wakes up in a cold sweat, drawing deep, labored breaths, feeling like his chest is about to cave in.
His bloodshot eyes focus, and with it, the chilling realization.
A sinister shape, pitch black, is straddling him, a figure so utterly devoid of light that it's silhouetted by the already dark background that is his room.
It only takes a second for him to catch on. He's seen this figure before, hovering above New York the day Bob transformed into Sentry.
"You show such willfulness, John Walker, clinging to your own darkness for so long."
