This managed to pull a sweet smile from Gwaine, who melted back into Merlin's waiting arms and kissed his temple in a hurry, before shoving a handful of strawberries into his lap and making a run for it.
Elyan wrestled a guard for his spear and hefted it over his shoulder.
"For Camelot" He screamed, then ran after the rascal.

In the wake of killing Carleon, Arthur realises that this is not the sort of King he wants to be. So he asks Merlin how he knew about Agravaine, and to his surprise, Merlin gives him an extremely sound and well researched set of arguments, that he promises he has the physical papers to back up.

"And what of me, Merlin? When you are dead." Arthur demanded, eyes pinning him to their proximity. "Do you truly expect me to let go of you long enough for them to lay you to rest?"
Merlin inhaled sharply, for a moment Arthur thought he would protest, insist his life was nothing compared to Arthur's, but Merlin only looked at Arthur, as if he was measuring the depth of his words, the give of his eyes, and Arthur refused to look away, he thought that if he squinted, he could see the stars in Merlin's eyes.

On a cold night Merlin can only be found in one place, his super secret book nook that no one knows about. Until, that is, Arthur forgets to give him something and follows him out into the library. He discovers that along with a dinner fit for royalty, he's also in possession of documents that Arthur himself can barely even understand.
Arthur sighs, reading his to do list out loud. "Fix the guard rotation schedules, research greeting customs for the nobles visiting next week, check the locks in the upper tower, talk the stable boys out of a boycott, rework budget in anticipation of price influx from outsourcing merchants, find a subtle way to tell Arthur I'm arranging a peace treaty on his behalf without making him think I'm plotting a coup. Really?"
Merlin nods. "I'm going to be busy tomorrow. But right now I'm more focused on getting this speech finished, accepting Queen Corvina's invitation, and finding a way to make sure the upcoming winter doesn't destroy our crops and completely wipe out our profit margins like it did last year." He tells them, sipping his water. "Because if we lose any more than 12% of what we normally sell we won't be able to afford the impending upcharge for our outsourced materials."
