Summary
Because Mike isn’t stupid. He knows what the vile sickness inside of him is. He knew it when he was young, and he and Will got married on the playground. He knew it when El kissed him that last time before leaving for California and then again when Will was forced to spill the same secret out of pure fear.
Mike felt it on the radio tower, when Will and him had had a second to speak. But nothing would come out. Mike was as empty and lifeless as a puppet. It was like he saw everything on a video tape, seeing some other version of himself turn down his best friend.
The other version was bullshit, though. Mike knew it. That was him and those were his mistakes, just as much as not telling his girlfriend he loved her before she killed herself. Every version of him would stay just as silent as he had then.
The only way Mike Wheeler was coming out of the closet was kicking, screaming, and calling himself names that only ever came from the mouths of bullies and fathers.
Or, it is 1992 and Mike Wheeler feels like he's dying and kind of wished he was.

"Lucas... Let me." He begged, his voice raw "I want this. Let me... please."
Three months after Eleven's death, Mike attempts suicide and Lucas stops him. Everyone has to deal with the consequences.
