Zoey's face turns dramatic, clutching fake pearls around her neck. “You wanna bone now? In her current state?”
“Not like that, dumbass!” Mira snaps back, but her reddening cheeks remove any bite from her words.
“I think I'm tilting.”
Both girls’ attention returns to Rumi, who, unsurprisingly, is not tilting.
So she purrs. What about catnip?

"What the fuck is this about again?" Alice asked, already scrolling her phone, and bobbing her head slightly to whatever music she was listening to. At least she only had one earbud in. That usually meant she was paying rapt attention despite appearances.
"This," Courtney said, pulling the small instrument from her pocket in a rather theatrical fashion, "is the black box of the Mecha Man suit."
To her disappointment, her announcement only raised a few eyebrows, instead of the loud cheering she expected. What an ungrateful bunch of losers.

“Would you prefer to stop the bloodshed or to prevent it?”
Jaina looks at him, then moves her eyes to the valley below. The butcher is somewhere inside, probably boasting about his so-called victory, as if attacking a peaceful city could be considered anything but an atrocity.
How many lives?
“Countless, my child. The ones you grieve today, the ones you grieved years ago, the ones you will grieve in years to come if you continue down this path.”

The thing about Robert being Mecha Man — the thing that still fucks Victor up, even weeks after he first heard it in the break room — is that Mecha Man is a hero-hero.
Like; a good one.
A memorable one.
A beloved one.
The kind that people have been calling the last of "the old guard" since his debut fifteen whole years ago. The kind that people name to soothe their kids when they're feeling scared. The kind that people actually want to save them when they're in deep shit. They don't hope that "Water Barf Boy" or "Invisibitch" are coming, they pray that Mecha Man is already en route. Victor watched the coverage, after his suit exploded, half because it was all anyone wanted to talk about and half out of morbid curiosity. They talked about the guy like he was a thing to be worshiped — a merciful, loving god on the horizon. An angel dressed in metal.
It was ridiculous.
Or: Sonar, on Robert Robertson III and Mecha Man.

Velvette taps at her phone, resisting the urge to smash the intercom playing basic waiting music. The little bop tune has repeated at least three times since she stepped into the elevator.
Carmilla has many properties. The building where they often hold overlord meetings for one, and a scattering of warehouses all through the industrial district. One that looks less like a warehouse and more like a ballroom with its balcony and staircases, to be honest.
Then there’s the actual home of the Carmines. A sleek, minimalist apartment building where Carmilla lives with her daughters. Velvette has VoxTimed Carmilla in her home office before, but other than that has no idea what may lay in store. But the way Carmilla purposefully mentioned that Odette and Clara were both away for the night gives a hint.

Rumi leaned her elbow on the table, eyes never leaving her. “No,” she said firmly. “It looks good like this. I like it like this.”
Zoey looked at her again, a little unsure. “..Yeah?”
“Yeah,” Rumi said, smiling now. She reached out and gently tucked Zoey’s hair behind her ear, letting her fingers linger. “You’re so pretty, Zoey.”
OR
Zoey's never been the most secure girl. It explained why she was so eager to please, doing everything she could to hear the words, 'good job' from someone she loved. So when Rumi unexpectedly complimented her for her hair, which she believed was long overdue for a cut, she couldn't help but blush.
