She was slowly building up to it. For weeks, she had been gathering the courage to finally find out why she was coughing up flower petals without warning. She had a book which could potentially help her, she knew some people who would definitely know a few things.
But Serena had been in denial. She had hidden it from her friends. Had insisted she was fine. Not for one second did she want to admit that there was something terribly wrong with her. She just wanted to travel happily with her friends.
Was that too much to ask?
When she finally found out why life had to be so unfair, she couldn't choose whether to laugh or cry in hysteria. Maybe, both.
She was in love with Ash.
And because she was so irrevocably in love with a person who, most likely, would never return her feelings, she was doomed to an early demise if she didn't accept the alternative: severing her love for Ash to save her own life.
Arceus, she hoped she could delay her death until after Ash eventually left Kalos, once the League was over. The last thing she wanted to see was his sad eyes and the utter devastation when he realised he was the reason she would succumb to her last painful breath.
She'd rather die alone.

Two four year old girls, one of them with hair and soul made of fire, and the other one quieter, with a big, gentle smile and a head full of auburn curls.
Two lovely tiny munchkins having a tea party with his father, sitting at the cutest teeny-tiniest Frozen themed plastic set of table and chairs Eddie had ever seen. The dad was pouring imaginary tea into their plastic cups, the curly haired one graciously gesturing with her hands while she sing-sang how much fun she was having and how delicious the tea was.
When the dad spotted Eddie, standing in his front yard, fully staring, Eddie’s face became so red so fast, that even from many feet away, he was sure that the whole family could notice.
