In the modern era, with the demon race permanently ended with the contribution from their previous lives, there isn't much left for Iguro to protect her from. In fact, it feels like half the time, she's the one protecting him.
It doesn't mean he lacks in trying, however. Iguro has one soft spot, and she is very, very, very debilitating. To the point he'd do anything for her, even if it means giving her up forever.

Giyuu likes the morning.
Not because he was a morning person. If Sabito let him, Giyuu would probably spend an entire day in bed. Bed was relaxing, comforting. His bed blocked him from the multitude of tasks a half-baked Water Pillar like him was expected to do. Giyuu was an absolute disaster in the morning. It was probably a good thing that Giyuu hid in the Water Pillar Estate, for if anyone saw him, they would be left to wonder how such a dysfunctional person could rise the ranks and somehow stand as an equal beside the other Water Pillar.
But that is beside the point.
The point is, Giyuu liked mornings. He only liked them differently than Sabito did.

Giyuu was always a shy, hesitant sort of child. His sister Tsutako had always been the one who would hold both his hands and practically shove him into the washitsu to interact with family, or the one to push him out the door to go out to deliver a gift to their neighbors. His sister was kindness with a persistent, stern smile. She always had the strength that Giyuu lacked.
His sister took their broken lives and soothed it over with her hand. Her hands- that is what Giyuu would always remember. Her tilted head, her crescent eyes, the soothing way she held his hand. Those hands told him they would be okay. Those hands spelled out their life together.
You’d think that the village would take pity on a child.

They say that water holds memories. The Water Hashira has plenty. They follow him wherever he goes, they guide his footsteps in the life he sometimes falters in living.
Giyuu has loved three people in his life. Three people imprinted him in a way no one else had.

An unknown Nen ability causes Killua to lose all memory of Gon, and he's extremely suspicious of the story Gon tells him of the life they allegedly share. Love, belonging, a cozy apartment with both of their names on the lease--it's simply too good to be true. For someone like Killua, that sort of life just isn't possible. For someone like Killua, Gon just isn't possible.

‘Are you sure you’ll be okay by yourself for a few weeks?’
It’s the fifteenth time Blue has asked, and it’s starting to get on Red’s nerves. Something must show on his face, because Blue waves a hand, sighing.
‘It’s not that. I know you can take care of yourself,’ he shrugs, and then rests a hand gently on the cast on Red’s leg, ‘It’s this.’
Red glances down, frowning. His frown deepens at the signatures scrawled across the plaster – he’d initially tried to stop people from doing it, didn’t like the messiness, but a couple of the Battle Tree regulars did it anyway. As always, people really didn’t get ‘no’. Eventually, he gave in.
Even though Blue signed last, he managed to take up the most space.
‘I can cancel,’ Blue offers, again, but his heart is not in it. He’s been looking forward to this. They’ve been looking forward to this.
The plan had been Kalos, for four weeks. Blue had gotten an invitation to take part in a research tour, an expedition of the mountains. Naturally, Red had been immediately invited, with the plan to extend the expedition to a more personal tour of the country afterwards.
Then, Red broke his leg.
