“In all her glory, the land we return to”
When Banditos come of age they are invited to join others of their age on a pilgrimage, taking them across the wilds of Trench in all her glory. It’s a test for them, to prove they can survive the land. Some go only once, feeling they have proved themselves enough, some go many times, a new venture each year. But all are expected to go.
Sóley, approaching adulthood like a burning comet, has yet to have her pilgrimage. And if her father, their tribe leader and torchbearer, has anything to say on the matter, she will never be leaving the many walls of their village.

OR: Sóley, daughter of The Torchbearer, wakes up one morning with her head shaved. This event leads to an undercover mission in DEMA, watching her best friend die, and becoming physically chained to a former Bishop fleeing his life in search of his past.
The new Bandito must learn to trust and work with her supposed enemy in order to get back home, but what awaits them there is nothing like either expects. -

J.J. drunk FaceTimes Quentin one night their first year away at college.
It's an ungodly hour because they forget in their inebriated state that Jersey is three hours ahead of California, but Quentin answers anyways because he will alway answer the phone for his daughter, even at ass o’clock in the morning, so it doesn’t matter.
At first he’s a bit panicked about why they’re calling in the middle of the night, let alone from a party. Then once he strings together enough of what they're trying to say through the garbled audio of the phone speaker, he just laughs.
“How the hell did you and Pa make me if you met in college of all places? All these people are fucking imbeciles— they can’t even look each other in the eyes.”

Tyler knelt on the hard floor of the church in front of the altar where the bible sat open on its pedestal. Open and bookmarked at Leviticus 18:22, the verse he’d been reading over and over to himself for the past three and a half days. The one he’d been knelt at his bed praying to- repeating like it was his own personal inferno. The same one he repeated now, even after confession. Mutters of “Forgive me, father” and “I repent.” echoed off the walls, like voices taunting him for his mistakes- the sins of his past.
He kept thinking back to that night.
Being under that guy at a house party.
Tyler remembered being under him, head tilted back as unholy sounds and cries ripped out of his throat like they’d been trapped for his entire life.
