“I think I might be gay.”
Mel's eyebrows rose. She wasn't expecting that.
“Okay, let's take a big breath here.” He followed her instructions, his shoulders relaxed somewhat. “Although there is no problem, if that's correct—don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong if you are gay. But I was under the impression you liked women.”
At least he was very attracted to Mel. And very enthusiastic about it too. Some things you couldn't hide.
Frank sighed and dragged a hand through his face. “I do.” He agreed.
“And correct me if I'm wrong— which I might, because I'm just basing this on assumptions—” Frank squeezed her hand back, looking at her like he did when she spiraled. She nodded. “Right. You don't seem very attracted to men.”
Frank shook his head. “Not in particular, no.” He agreed.
Mel was completely confused at this point.
“Can I ask you why you think you're gay, then?”

“The bus.”
Remus frowned. “You never took the bus.”
Sirius shrugged, a blush forming on his cheeks. “First time for everything.”
Remus blinked. “You got lost, didn’t you?”
“I got lost.”
And Remus scoffed a laugh, not yet wanting to forgive Sirius, but the mental image was just too funny.

Just maybe, the ugly feeling in his chest and the burn he felt weren’t a normal part of rejection, maybe they were a warning all along.
It was possible Edward was broken beyond repair and could not tell the difference between a rejection and a dead soulmate.
Could it be that Stede Bonnet had died all those weeks ago and Edward never realised? That he was too focused on his own hurt, his own wound, to notice the lack of Stede Bonnet in the world?
