Summary
My body feels as though it is no longer my own, which I suppose it isn’t. I have become the fingers and gestures of the Emperor, and mine is not the only soul that is housed within the shell of my skin. It feels alien that, after years of pulling thanergy from the battlefield to make Marta strong, it is now her own soul strengthening me. I must remain thankful for it.

Summary
Gideon was having a perfectly normal, perfectly pleasant evening (or at least, what passed for normal and pleasant in Canaan House) when Harrow looked up from her flimsy-strewn desk and said,
"In the interest of remaining transparent, you ought to know that I've asked Sextus to marry me."
OR
Harrow and Palamedes refuse Lyctorhood, and get married instead. Gideon and Camilla are totally fine about it, honest.

Summary
Harrow had never wanted to believe that God was trying to kill them. For all the long, lonely years of her childhood, it was service to Him and to The Tomb that had kept her alive; it would have been sacrilege to end her own life when her life was dedicated to Him (and when it had been bought for so high a price). It had been inconceivable to her, when first presented with the idea, that the Kindly Prince, the King Undying, would ever order the annihilation of his own subjects, the heirs to his Houses.
However, at this point there was no arguing with the evidence.

There were no eyes down in the depths of Drearburh (unless you counted the empty sockets of the myriad skulls embedded in the walls) and more importantly there were no ears to hear her if she wanted to scream into the blackness until she felt the blood trickle down the back of her throat.
None, apparently, but the divine ears of Her Most Serene Highness Kiriona Gaia.

Summary
“You’re ever so boring, Pash.”
“Good. If you found me interesting I’m sure you’d want to talk to me more.”
Pash might be the worst person Crown knew, but she nonetheless came from a family of hot people, and was therefore, distressingly, hot. Crown dropped the pitch of her voice, adding just a drop of honey when she replied,
“And you’d hate that, wouldn’t you? You hate my talk, and my hair, and my boobs.”

Summary
According to Earth Kingdom records, Opal Beifong was born in Zaofu in 154 AG. The only daughter of Suyin and Bataar Beifong, she was gifted with airbending at Harmonic Convergence in 171 AG.
In truth, Opal Beifong was born in secret on Kyoshi Island in 154 AG. The only child of Lin Beifong and the first daughter of Tenzin, son of Avatar Aang, she proved to be an airbender at the age of three. She would not meet her birth parents for a further fourteen years.

Summary
Three conversations on Air Temple Island, fifteen years after Lin and Tenzin didn't have a baby.
It wasn’t as though she hadn’t remembered in previous years—she always remembered—but there was something sharper about it now that Tenzin was back in her life. It was only once she felt that familiar grief tug at her gut, that Lin realized a small part of her had been hoping that the healing of her friendship with Tenzin might have healed other wounds along with it. Instead, the stitching holding them together seemed to snap, string by string, with every tentative smile and invitation to dinner.

Summary
“Thanks, Mom.”
Lin blacks out for a second. Then she has several thoughts in quick succession; the first is fuck. The second is that she’s inexpressibly glad they are in her office and not in the bullpen. The third is that she needs to say something now before Mako flees and never speaks to her again. A look of slow, dawning horror is spreading across his face, and Lin scrambles to say something that will end this torment for both of them.

UPDATED as of 15/11/2020 with Chapter 2: Tenzin and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Morning
“It’s good to see Korra so happy, and about time too. I swear, Asami’s been filing false reports with that girl since the new airbenders showed up.”
Tenzin followed Kya's gaze out into the courtyard, where Korra was taking a break from practising her forms to lie with her head in Asami’s lap. It was good to see her happy, so he simply hummed in agreement and went back to the scroll he was reading. Kya said a lot of things that Tenzin didn't understand, and he’d learned that asking her about them usually ended in ridicule, so on this occasion, he decided against it.
In hindsight, asking would have saved him a lot of stress.

“You don’t know who Toph Beifong is?” Korra asked quietly, as if addressing someone vaguely senile. “Toph Beifong who literally invented this sport? Toph Beifong the twelve time pro-bending champion? That Toph Beifong?”
Kya shrugged,
“I never really followed pro-bending. I joined the team because I thought it sounded fun.” Perhaps that wasn’t entirely true, but nor was it something Kya felt like getting into on her first day.
“Okay. I’m going to tell you some stuff, but it is only because I don’t want you finding out from a sleazy tabloid, or saying the wrong thing to Lin and getting yourself punched.”

“I’m not in the mood, Kya,” Lin snapped, signing her name to the bottom of the document. She sighed before she looked up from the paperwork. “I know you’re only here because Tenzin asked, but I don’t need a babysitter.”
“I prefer to think of myself as a bodyguard,” Kya said, “It’s so much sexier.”

“You’ve been avoiding me.”
Lin stopped where she was, weighing her options. She could ignore Kya, and carry on walking, but that was a version of herself she had tried to leave behind. Lin turned.
In the evening light, Kya looked like some kid of apparition: a water spirit. Her silver hair shone, and despite the crutch she still needed, there was something ethereal in the way she held herself—Lin had always thought Kya was more of an air nomad than her father realised—as if her feet were barely brushing the floor. She looked beautiful, and utterly unreachable.

Summary
Katara could feel the precipice before her, and if she flung herself from it now, he could catch her or let her fall. Not a fall to the death; she had seen too much and lived too long now for such a thing to be fatal, but the bruises incurred would be tender for years to come. It would be safer to stay on solid ground—she had lived without him for fifty years, she could bear another ten, or twenty—she could still bring herself back from the edge of this, remain stable. That was what she had chosen before, and she had been happy enough.
Katara hoped Zuko didn’t notice how her hands shook as she brought her teacup to her lips. The tea was lukewarm now, still with it’s not-quite-bitter edge. Katara jumped.

Summary
Lin knew she should have talked to him about it years ago, when she turned thirty, and Tenzin had started dropping heavier and heavier hints, but she’d been too much of a coward. She really should have talked to him about it two years ago, after Aang died, and the hints started to have an edge of desperation. She could feel her breaths coming heavier as she remembered the tortured look on his face that afternoon, the anger and the betrayal that had laced his every word.
Gentle fingers on her arm brought Lin back to reality.
“Did he ever ask you, Lin?” Katara said, and Lin frowned. “Did he ask you what you wanted?”

“Why?” Jaime asked, and Brienne wished she could not hear the hurting, pleading note beneath his harshness.
“Because I was frightened. Because I was faithless. Because I felt I had no alternative,” she told him, desperately trying to keep her voice even and detached. She doubted she succeeded. “What do you want me to say?”
“I want the truth.”

"We already live together, and you’re exactly the sort of person who would insist on eloping instead of enduring the sickening display of wealth my Father would term a wedding. Besides, here we are, on a Friday night, eating take away, watching movies, and not having sex. We’re practically married anyway.” Jaime shrugged as though this was a perfectly reasonable thing to say, and Brienne gaped at him for a moment before huffing,
“I’m not doing it.”
