    ...Okay, maybe slightly distracted. But who wouldn’t be? Life’s been weird lately—like, can’t-focus-on-work, lost-in-thought, zoning-out-mid-conversation kind of weird. It’s probably stress. Or lack of sleep. His concussion. Or Buck’s fault. (It’s definitely Buck’s fault.)

    All Eddie knows is that his brain has been taking some... creative liberties lately. And while most people might daydream about, say, a vacation or winning the lottery, Eddie’s subconscious seems to have its own, very specific, very Buck-centered agenda.

    He’s not worried. Not really. These things pass.

    This summer has had some subversive effects on his very definition of what it means to want.

    He’s always been good at not wanting too much or too recklessly. But these days, it seems like he’s insatiable, wrought with hunger and pillaging to consume.

    Maybe it's because this kind of wanting feels offensive—something he thought he’d snuffed out decades ago, made benign.

    He’s always been so good at beating it down, down, down into submission whenever it reared its ugly head; he had a handle on it.

    Now, it’s all gone to shit.
