In 112 AC, the mother of Rhaenyra Targaryen, Queen Aemma Arryn, died giving birth to a child. In another life, in another story, she died giving birth to a son, Baelon. But in this story, instead of a son, as Viserys had hoped for, she dies giving birth to a daughter. A small, frail thing she named Daenerys Targaryen as she left the world. Princess Rhaenyra was then named Heir to the Iron Throne, with Daenerys Targaryen as a younger sister.
The Dance of the Dragons will never be the same again.

Pain slams into Aemond without warning.
Not physical—not entirely.It is as if his bones remember drowning, as if his soul remembers falling through black water that never ends. His knees buckle. Breath tears from his chest in a ragged gasp, the world lurching violently around him.
“The Old Gods are listening,” Luke says. “They were going to give this chance to me.”
The uncle laughs, sharp and broken. “Of course they were,” he says.There is no doubt the Old Gods would have chosen a boy beloved by the tides and the heavens, gone too soon. They would not have been pleased with Lucerys’s ending—one taken by Aemond’s hand, without any god’s permission.

His existence had been nothing but infinite sadness, so forgive him if, when he woke up again in his twelve-year old body, he was pissed. So he decided that, if he really had to live his life again, he would change a few things. Save a few people along the way, annoy a few others and definitely have some fun.
Infinite sadness? Well, no more baby. It was time for payback.
