I'm really liking it so far, but I'm not gonna recommend it until I get deeper into the plot, lol

You’d stare at the mirror and feel only self-hatred and loathing for the person you are, and the person you’re doomed to be. You look at magazine covers with your face on it and know that people will only ever see, and understand, a very shallow part of you that you perform to the world. You try not to wallow, fail, and go to sleep. You are, unfortunately, Julian Casablancas.

I read this a while back, sneaking in reading a chapter whenever I had the time to do so (mostly on the bus to and from school). Because of that, this took me a while to read, and oddly enough, I think that's the best way to enjoy this story. It's a bit repetitive, but the writing is easily charming enough to make up for it.

This story is less about plot, and more so about characters and their complicated relationships with not only each other, but the environment they live in. It's not action-packed, but a beautiful slow burn with an ambigiuous ending that fits natural lives like yours and mine.

If you like The Strokes - or good writing, for that matter - give the first ten chapters a read. If you like them, then definitely read the whole thing. It's a worthwhile read for those who enjoy this type of writing.

Also, if you like to listen to music while you read, I recommend listening to Mitski for this one. I did that, and I can't hear Mitski the same, for better or for worse (for worse, being I have to force myself not to cry from thinking about this story. for better, being this story has impacted me in such an emotional way, even after months of finishing it.)
