The voice was rich, leathery, and smooth, a controlled belt from the chest of the woman on stage. Mira imagined she could see the concentration in the woman’s closed eyes and furrowed brow, if the stage lights weren’t hitting her from behind, shrouding her in a golden silhouette.
Every bar was effortless. Every note an odyssey.
Mira looked at Zoey. The girl was just as transfixed. More so than Mira, even. But then, Zoey’s attunement to the Honmoon was much stronger than Mira’s. Zoey often said the Honmoon kind of felt like the Ocean from Moana. Mira had never seen it so she had to take Zoey’s word for it.
The Honmoon rippled.

Celine arched a brow at her.
"What?" Rumi grinned. "I'm monitoring the process. Quality control."
"Is that what you call sitting here doing nothing?"
"It's not nothing." Rumi huffed, puffing her cheeks a little. "I'm monitoring."
Celine shook her head with a soft laugh and turned back to her task.
It's Chuseok. So as each year on end — Rumi and Celine gather together to celebrate.

That classic ‘I need you to help me pretend to my family that I’m in a relationship by bringing you home for the holidays’ fic, except all Celine wants to know is that Rumi has friends, and Rumi… hasn't really been concentrating on that aspect of her life. She wants to be promoted next year, she doesn't have time to make friends. Which is probably why the only people she can think to ask home for Christmas are the two women she had a threesome with six months ago.
Chaotic but established Zoey / Mira, workaholic lonely Rumi, supportive guardian angel Celine. A bit of silly semi-cracky Christmas fun. “When I’m older, can-can I help you fight then?”
Celine’s eyes widened at the offer, but then she laughed lightly, charmed by the question. “Tell you what,” she said, brushing down some purple hair that had become messy during the night. “When you’re a hunter, you can fight demons all on your own.”
Rumi groaned and clenched her little fists, giving the woman holding her a little chuckle. “But being a hunter is-is for when I’m older, and older is so far away! I know you’re the best ever, but I wanna help you fight now.”
Celine looked at the girl fondly, letting her face soften in thought. “I am good, but…”
She turned, with Rumi still in her lap, to look at the mirror, waiting until the little girl looked, too. Once she did, she placed her hands on her shoulders, encouraging her to sit up straight, confidently.
“Rumi, you have the chance to be even greater.”Celine struggles to protect Rumi as she grows up... and then struggles with what comes after that.

"Should...should she be here for this? Zoey?" Rumi asked, as if "she" could mean anyone else in the universe.
"If I thought she should, we wouldn't be having this conversation at five AM."

"So what makes this not a Zoey conversation?"That question had been in Rumi's head, but she wasn't the one who said it. Instead, they both turned around and saw Zoey wander in from the stairwell, wiping bleary eyes on the sleeves of a sweater that, from its size on her, was almost certainly stolen from Mira. Even so, despite being clearly fresh off of not nearly enough sleep and barely containing a yawn, Zoey stared at them both with a hardness she rarely possessed.
After a long moment, Mira sighed. "The fact that it's probably gonna turn into a fight. Not an argument. A fight."

Summary
Celine is standing outside when she arrives. She puts her arms out when she sees her, like she used to when Rumi was a toddler. Then she flinches, like she remembers.
Rumi ignores it and steps into them anyway. It takes a beat or two before Celine fully wraps her arms around her, but when she does, Rumi crumbles. The weight of her pain, her fear, her exhaustion is suddenly too much to bear when the arms that carried her through childhood offer to lighten the load.
Or
Rumi migrates back to Jeju to learn how to breathe again and begins to mend things with Celine, and with herself.

Celine knows something is wrong before she gets the phone call. The Honmoon is disturbed. Weeping sad tearful notes and rippling in a way that leaves her heart aching and anxiety settling deep in her gut. Something is so wrong and even without the Honmoon she knows it's Rumi.
Then her phone rings and she's calm and she's cool and she's collected. Celine throws her phone into the wall when she hangs up and screams out a sound that has the Honmoon curling around her in a vain effort to comfort her.
