"I don't believe you," Optimus repeats. Louder this time. "You're not too far gone, Megatron. You're not. You could've brought the entirety of the high guard with you. You could have trapped me. You could have hurt me."
"I still can."
"Then do it." Optimus says calmly. "Look me in my optics and tell me you don't care about me anymore. Tell me the way I feel for you doesn't mean jack shit to you. Tell me you don't feel the same. You want to hurt me? Do it then. Stomp out my spark under your pede and tell me to go."
Megatron freezes, staring at Optimus. He doesn't know what to say. He was just told what to say. He can't- he-

Summary
Pax was smiling. In all of these- all of the pages and pages of D-16’s art- his smile, his bright blue optics, reigned over every piece. Staring, watching, smiling at Megatron. He raised a servo to cover his mouth, as the lights of his own red optics dimmed in agony. In grief.
A long time ago, D-16 had figured that, when Orion Pax died, he'd die by D-16's side, and he'd die smiling at him.
Now, Megatron knew such dreams had always been foolish.

Optimus Prime, was having a bad day. Actually, to call it a bad day might just be an understatement. But it hadn't started well and had only gotten worse.
After lashing out at Sentinel and fleeing custody, Optimus finds himself in the only place that could be worse for him, the hands of the Decepticons.
Megatron sees a golden opportunity to get something valuable on his side, to drag the oh no noble and selfless Optimus Prime down to his side. And he's not going to let this opportunity slip away.

I saw this animatic and I really, really wanted to read a fic about TFA Optimus being swayed to the Decepticon side. The very particular story I wanted didn't exist so I wrote it myself.

“Sorry,” the former Prime mutters, and Megatron’s thoughts promptly lag. He meets Megatron’s optics with all four of his before quickly turning away and wiping his unexpectedly pretty mouth. He fiddles with the string of his trap, catching it on one of the dentae like needles on his jaw hinges, and cuts it. “This wasn’t meant for you. I was trying to catch something to eat.”
“… I don’t like eating mechanisms,” he feels the need to clarify when Megatron remains silent.Megatron comes across the Prime the Autobots mean to forget, and quickly finds out why.

So, he clicks it. The Orion Pax in him is still making horrible decisions, Optimus guesses, because when he hears a sleepy groan and a “who the frag is this” on the other line, he realizes he’s made a horrible mistake.
Optimus Prime accidentally calls Megatron in the middle of the night, two and a half weeks after their fight. They end up talking a lot more than they'd expected.

Bruce realizes just a moment too late.
Something is very wrong.
Somewhere above him a machine hums to life, and then all of a sudden the room fills with a bright golden light. Bruce’s eyes adjust, and the full horror of what is happening hits him. The discs overhead aren’t filtering the light, they’re concentrating it, aiming it directly to where Clark is lying on the exam chair. Bruce’s stomach drops as Clark screams, writhing on the chair as the automatons pin him down.
Like a bug being cooked under a magnifying glass.

Their great leader, their chosen one,” Megatron snarls finally, mockingly, and he puts so much quiet vitriol into it that it makes his own spark twist as he strains against the axe pressed to his throat. His optics burn. “How does it feel, Prime, to be blessed by a god?”
“It is no blessing,” Optimus spits, a holy reckoning wreathed in light from above, and they both ignore how it sounds like half a sob. “I had no choice.”
Five times Megatron fights Optimus Prime, and one time he doesn’t.
(There is a very thin line between a martyr and a sacrifice. That line is free will.)
(Optimus Prime, it seems, does not have any.)

“We could have built the future together, D.”He’s so tired, suddenly, frame aching from it all. And now there’s this- this new Prime standing here and it’s all wrong. Except, he can still see Orion Pax in there, with his righteous demeanor and those blue optics as familiar to him as his own. They’re full of sorrow, his mouth a twist of pain.
And somehow that’s what makes him turn away, resetting his vocalizer. “It’s too late for that.”
He’s hollow. He’s so full of this awful, septic anger and he has nowhere to put it.
“No, it’s not-” Pax reaches out a servo, almost hesitant. He looks like he’s actually listening for once, and there’s a touch of desperation there. Hope. D-16 huffs a small, brittle laugh. Pax always could hope.

It's cold on the surface. Bit of a weird thought to have, honestly, considering everything else he could be thinking about and gawking at tonight, but it is cold. Maybe it's just that he's spent too much standing directly next to a furnace. Maybe that's just how the sky is.
