Summary
According to the team, Andrew is currently losing a custody battle for Neil against a sport invented by the mafia.
It’s a running joke in the locker room: Neil cares about Exy, and then, distant second, he cares about breathing. Andrew is somewhere on the list, probably below the new backliner spread Kevin found.
Andrew doesn't bother correcting them. He knows the difference between a distraction and a destination. He knows Neil runs until his lungs burn to keep the ghosts quiet, but he also knows exactly whose bed Neil crawls into when the adrenaline fades.
(Or: 5 times the team thought Neil loved the sport more than the goalkeeper, and one time Neil made the hierarchy terrifyingly clear.)

"Go on, splash me again," he says. "But you're getting off this damn beach, because I am not dealing with Kevin's attitude tomorrow if Wymack finds your dead, capsicle body here. You can die elsewhere for all I care, just don't make it my problem by doing it in the restaurant’s view."
Andrew's familiar routine of closing up for the night is disrupted by something bloody and injured washing up from the depths.

But one night when Neil came in with a bruise blooming high on his throat and Andrew looked half wrecked from giving it, their usual server, a woman in her fifties with glittery nails and a tired smile, just said, “Y’all look like you had a good night,” and brought over a plate of cinnamon toast on the house.

Sitting up straight, Kevin sets the glass down with a gentle thud. “Ask me to bed.” Electricity branches through Ichirou’s body, down to his core.
Ichirou spreads his legs and says, “Come here.”

“Shit,” Neil gasps as Andrew kisses against his collarbone, licks a stripe up the side of his neck, before pressing one last kiss against his mouth. “Well, this is already very different from my past experiences.”
Neil is nearly breathless. Andrew mentally pats himself on the back. Take that, Brandon.
“So, he kissed you,” Andrew says. He means to sound authoritative, self-sure, but it’s lost somewhere in the rawness of his throat. “What else.”

His mind began to wander, conjuring images of Andrew’s lips against his, the black spikes adorning his bottom lip poking ever so slightly into the soft meat of Neil’s mouth. Would it hurt, he wondered? Would he be able to feel the sting? Or would it get swallowed by the plush swell of Andrew’s lips, the gentle glide of his tongue against Neil’s?
Neil meets a handsome stranger outside the club and discovers a newfound curiosity for piercings. He just wants a taste, but in the end, he may get more than he bargained for.

"Just a check up." Kevin swallows thickly, his skin vibrating.
"Routine physical," Aaron confirms. He sits, back straight and hands on his thighs. "We'll get you all checked out, nice and thorough." A switch clicks, Aaron's voice thick like molasses. "How does that sound, Kevin?"

Neil leans into him. He kisses Andrew’s lips, then his chin, then his jaw, and pushes the cuffs into Andrew’s upturned palms. At first, Andrew refuses to hold them, but Neil keeps shoving until Andrew’s fingers wrap around the metal.
“I’m not in the right place to know where the lines are with you,” he admits softly, clenching his eyes shut. “But I need you right now.”

Booker laughed. "You ever seen Joe or Nicky when the other one's leaking badly?"
"So, forever."
"I can only say that I'm not used to it yet." He looked down at himself. "But if it's mine, it's not as bad."
"Is that why you jumped on the grenade?"
"I don't know. I saw it, I went for it. If I weren't immortal I would be dead many times over. I'm not a fancy fighter." He took a peek and got grazed on the side of his head. "Ow. Fuck. How are you handling the transition?"
"It's weird," she said truthfully. "Everyone's a million years older than me."
"Yeah," he said with a horribly insincere grin as blood trickled down the side of his face. "And they'll never really get it. Quynh was a hundred by the time Andy found her. Joe and Nicky died together. And then there's us."
Everyone else is very old and paired off, so Nile decides her cohort needs to unionize. Any good union comes with benefits, even it takes you both ten years to be ready for all of them.

The fur from the tail brushes against the back of his thighs. Jean runs a gentle hand from the base to the tip, sending a shiver up Jeremy's spine.
"Spin," Jean says quietly, keeping a warm hand on Jeremy's hip. Jeremy breathes shakily, trying to remember how to use his limbs. His bones feel like gelatin, but he somehow manages to turn around and face Jean. The tail swings with every movement. The ears sit snug on his head. The collar is tight around his neck. "Good dog."
A lupine whine startles from Jeremy's throat. Yes. He is good. He's Jean's good dog.
