Summary
“You know what they say,” Clark says, his eyes holding Lex’s mouth, “about your life flashing before your eyes right before you die?”
Clark’s thumb sinks into the inside of Lex’s lip, then skates along his bottom teeth. Fire ignites in Lex’s chest, the pain of restraining himself.
“That didn’t happen. You know what did flash before my eyes?”
Clark removes his thumb from Lex’s mouth and his other hand comes up to cup the other side of Lex’s face.
“Can you guess, Lex?”
His breath is so shallow not even a newborn could drown in it.
“I can give you a hint,” Clark says.
And then he kisses Lex.
Just a graze of his lips, the hint of his tongue, sweet as an overripe berry.

Maybe Superman had been waiting for Lex’s release all along, a chance to be truly alone with him. No guards, no lawyers, only Lex and Superman. Lex’s pulse hammers in his throat.
When Lex is released from Belle Reve, he finds out Superman has been thinking about him as well. Despite the risks, Clark accepts Lex’s invitation into his penthouse.
