With a sigh that borders on painful, John finally admits, “Fucked my back up.” His eyes burrow into the bench across from the one they’re sat on, not wanting to look at Nikolai as he confesses, “Threw it out just standin’ up after I got knocked down.”
“We are getting old, da?”
Nikolai knocks their elbows together lightly, cognizant of his pissy back, and grins like growing old isn’t a slow and unending march towards the unavoidable end of their lives. Like the silver hairs sneaking into his long black hair, streaking his beard, and hiding beneath John’s boonie are something to celebrate rather than fear.
“Yeah…” John’s eyes pinch, and he studies the bench more intently.
An arm snakes around his shoulders carefully. Gingerly, Nikolai pulls him into the warmth of his side, and John tucks his head into the man’s broad chest, allowing himself comfort just this once.

Simon barely had time to process what just happened before a man came running after the dog, panting and clearly out of breath.
“Oi, bloody hell, Fergus! Get outta the water, ya daft mutt! Leave the ducks alone—come on, lad!” The man stopped at the edge of the riverbank, hands on his knees as he tried to catch his breath.
"He just can't listen..." He sighed.
"Too bad when he's your dog." Simon smirked.

“Haven’t even got time to make this up to ye…” He hesitated for a second, then his eyes brightened again. “How about a coffee tomorrow?”“I drink tea.”
“Fucking Brits…” John rolled his eyes but grinned anyway. “Alright, number then?” Without waiting for a response, he unlocked his phone and shoved it toward Simon.

Or a veteran Simon returns to civilian life working at a café and meets a loud scot when feeding ducks. They heal together and fall in love. Over a lot of chapters.

“Will, you needn’t have gotten me anything,” Hannibal said as he watched the profiler shaking snow from his hair in the foyer, dark curls bouncing around haphazardly as snowflakes shed in every direction.
“I know,” Will mumbled, his cheeks red from more than just the winter weather as he peered up at the Doctor, a small box in his hands. The wrapping was simple, red with little cartoon snowmen, but the item inside had been making Will sick with anxiety for the last month. “But you got me something, didn’t you?”
“Perceptive as always,” Hannibal replied, the corner of his lips tugging into a faint smirk. “Several gifts, actually.”I was shocked at how much people seemed to like To Make An Omelette, so I decided to write a festive sequel! I'd recommend reading that fic if you haven't first, but it definitely isn't obligatory. The main thing to know here is just that Will is a trans man, and Hannibal is vaguely agender/genderqueer.

After the fall, Will thought he and Hannibal had settled into a standstill of safe domesticity living together in Paris until Hannibal had asked him to come to the opera with him, posing as his husband, which was just a cover, another part for them to play. A quite reasonable cover that Will should not be concerned about. It should not feel this real, this needed, and Will should not be so protective of the idea of it. Of him.
But all Will can feel is a resounding ache in his bones, Bedelia’s words echoing in the halls of his mind, every small action of Hannibal’s loud in his ears.

Hannibal’s pupils dilate. In the endless black, Will sees something wild, inhuman. Will blinks, his exhales growing heavy, and blinks again. He thinks he sees himself. After images of after images burn his retinas. Even against the backdrop of his eyelids, he can’t evade the monster growing inside of him any more than he can deny his place at Hannibal’s table.
Caught between rage and instinct, Will presents Hannibal with his quarry, and sets out to prove himself to be Hannibal's most singular creation.
