“You used to talk to me,” Mike whispers.
Will’s lungs seize. Shit.
“We’re talking now,” he tries for casual, voice small, hoping it’s enough.
“Not like this,” Mike says. “Real talking.” He swipes at his eyes angrily, pulls away, wraps his arms around his knees. “You used to tell me everything. Even the stuff you didn’t tell Dustin or Lucas. It used to be just… us.”
In which Mike falls apart mid-mission, and for the first time, Will is the one to catch him.

“Jonathan, it’s Mike,” Will says firmly. “Tell me what Nancy said.”“Okay, I just—I don’t really know how to tell you this.”
“Tell me what?”
Jonathan glances away from the road briefly to look at him. “They think he did it on purpose.”
His body knows before his mind does. The world turns on its axis. He feels like he’s going to be sick. He blinks rapidly, reaching out to grab the dashboard with one hand as he’s overcome with suffocating vertigo.
“Did what on purpose?”
“Jumped,” Jonathan says, careful and quiet. “The doctors think he jumped.”

"A girl?" Dean prods, digging fingers into wounds Sam’s still visibly nursing. Knowing he's hit a pressure point, Dean latches on, unceasing: "Was there a girl?"
For a moment, Sam imagines the truth. The sweet, fleeting satisfaction of bursting that bubble. Imagines if he told his brother: No. There was a boy.
