There is power in names. That was one of the many things Ionius Hresvelg ever taught his daughter, Edelgard.
There is power in knowing one's enemy he would say to the little girl sat upon his knee as he read her stories of dragons, dashing knights and beautiful powerful warrior queens. Of the history of their own family, and her very own namesake.
Of the woman who walked with blood on her hands and on her path, yet still held her head high.
But those were not the only stories Ionius would tell her. No, there were kinder stories, ones filled with whimsy and of fae creatures. Some had scales, some had feathers, others still fur. And those creatures most of all knew the power in a name. That you mustn't ever offer them yours, unless you were sure you got what was just as powerful or important.

Emma clears her throat and shakes her head a little, trying to bring herself back to the present. “Yeah, um. He’s leaving town, I think.”
Regina’s eyes narrow as she processes the information, and Emma watches as she makes a solid but ultimately futile attempt to hide the way her eyes brighten at the news.
“I’m sorry?”
Emma smiles a little at that. “You don’t have to act like you’re upset about it, Regina.”
Regina bites back a smirk. “Good, because I’m certain that I wouldn’t succeed.”
