Summary
Brook liked to think he was a patient man. He’d waited fifty years in the Florian Triangle, after all. So, he certainly felt he had the credentials for it.
You’d think after so long on his own he would be a champion of patience. But if anything, he just felt worse off than before the Florian Triangle.
Being alone could almost physically hurt sometimes. Spending too long without hearing or seeing his friends would end with him getting lost in his thoughts.
Some days were easier than others. Some days it felt like he couldn’t stay present for the life of him.
Brook would like to be a patient man, though. The situation he had found himself in would certainly be much easier if he was.
Or: The Sunny’s fridge breaks and Brook is put on ‘keep everything cold and unspoiled’ duty. It’s not his favorite thing.

Summary
Every new year hundreds receive a death sentence in the form of a black skull mark on their arm. Some spend their last days seeking pleasure. Others fall into despair as if they were dead already. Some try to right their wrongs. Kaz Brekker welcomes any of them into the Dregs so long as they have a useful talent.
Some rumors claim, he keeps their hearts in jars. He delights in tormenting them, others whisper. He made a deal with the devil for their souls, others are convinced. Then again, no one knew much about Kaz Brekker. They didn’t know he wasn’t from the Barrel or that he’d once had a family. They never guessed where the rasp in his young voice came from. They certainly didn’t know why he really wore gloves. Most weren’t even convinced he was human. No one ever suspected that Kaz Brekker was deaf.
