But, team RWBY had handled the challenges in stride up until that point. Until they tried to stop the train. Until Weiss fought the tall, bat eared White Fang Lieutenant.
She had been far stronger of an opponent than the huntress had ever fought. A lucky turn in events had allowed her to survive, but at a cost. She had left Weiss with a terrible curse, something only seen in fairy tales and legends, a wretched undead creature of the night that feasts on the blood of the living.

There’s a story Ruby really liked, before she started having a lot more on her plate than a fairytale girlfriend. A story about a princess looking upon a woman of no station in a crowd, and finding herself whisked into that woman’s body. And, in turn, the woman took hers, until they laid eyes on one another once again, blushing and gleeful on the parapets of the castle.
For a long time, Ruby thought her soulmate would come along as sweet and sure as a fairytale— A true love, with a Happily Ever After to fit.

Ruby was honing her skills, gaining experience, and becoming stronger.Her feelings for her sword-bearing partner were growing too, increasingly so. If you ask her, she did a stellar job at staying subtle about it. Fall break would allow her to get her feelings under control, or at least she thought it would. Weiss invited her to stay with her during their break. In Atlas. At the Schnee Manor. In her room.
She totally handles this very well.

She’d thought when she’d fallen into the Ever After that things might start to get better. Heck she’d found this weird place, and her semblance had changed, evolved like Ren’s had!
Time Travel! How cool was that? Ok, well it was more like she could only go back to the point where she’d first unlocked her semblance, but still!
With that she could go back, and change things, help prevent so many deaths, and save everyone! At least that had been her thought.

Summary
If you asked the average citizen of Remnant to describe Ruby Rose, they’d tell you she was a hero. That she was the woman who united the world, a champion of the people, a final beacon of light in a storm without end, the rallying cry that stirred hope when all seemed lost. She was everything a Huntress should be, and so much more than that.
If you asked Weiss Schnee what she believed, she’d tell you much the same, but in further detail. Ruby Rose was beautiful beyond all compare, kind beyond all measure, compassionate to a fault, and more troubled than anyone outside her team would ever know. But above all else, despite the suffering and aggression the world had thrown her way, Ruby Rose was strong enough to be gentle.
After a taxing mission escorting refugees to Vacuo stirs up traumatic memories in the tired Huntress, Weiss takes it upon herself to ensure her leader knows she isn’t alone. She won’t sit idly by and let her crumble. Not again.
It was time Weiss stopped running from her feelings, and long past time Ruby felt a gentle touch.
